Inleiding

The ground floor is used as offices, the basement, first floor and attic are used as residential rooms.
Description
The brick building, laid in Flemish bond, is erected on a rectangular ground plan and consists of three storeys under a flat roof. The attic has on the side of the front facade a roof panel with steep slope, covered with bitumen. The building is fully cellared.
The building has an asymmetrical FRONT FACADE. The facade has decorations in sandstone, including a stringcourse at the height of the mullion of the windows on the first floor. The fanlights of windows and doors are filled with multicoloured leaded glass. The mullions are provided with pseudo consoles at the ends.
The left part of the facade contains on the ground floor a three-sided bay window with chamfered sides. The front section has a single-pane lower sash with 3-pane fanlight, the side sections with 2-pane fanlight. The bay window has a three-sided lean-to roof. The first floor contains a loggia. The opening in the facade consists of a semicircle-terminated opening, resting on square sandstone pillars, with two rectangular openings on both sides. These latter openings have a lower and upper section of sandstone. The brick arch has voussoirs and keystones of sandstone. The loggia is accessible via a 2-pane casement door with a three-section fanlight with 6-pane windows. On the left and right is a single-pane window with 4-pane fanlight. The facade rises here higher and ends in a spout gable with a steeking cap. The spout section, the upper triangle and the edges of the spout gable are executed in sandstone. The shoulders of the facade rest on square sandstone small pillars. The top gable has a slightly projecting three-sided bay window with chamfered sides, with in each side a 6-pane window.
The right part of the facade contains on the right on the ground floor the entrance, consisting of a wooden panelled door with carved work, set in a heavy frame of sandstone and hard stone. The mullion projects and rests on half-columns. Above the mullion a three-light opening. The entrance is located on a terrace, accessible via a flight of three steps. The terrace connects to the bay window. To the left of the entrance, the facade contains a window with single-pane lower sash and divided fanlight. The first floor has a broad window with single-pane lower sash and three-section fanlight. Both windows are relieved by a lintel with ornamental fittings on the ends. The facade is finished with a gutter on corbels. The roof section here has a large roof dormer with mock half-timbering and four 4-pane windows.
The BACK FACADE contains on the right a rectangular conservatory with a balcony above. The facade contains irregularly distributed across it a number of multi-pane windows, of which those at the location of the toilets have leaded glass in both lower and upper sash.
The RIGHT SIDE FACADE is blind and rendered with cement.
The building has a rich interior. The entrance and stairwell have a white marble floor, the entrance also a white marble wainscot. The stairwell has a stuccoed wainscot with fluted sections and a band of flowers. The rooms and landing have stucco ceilings with austere geometric central ornaments and perimeter mouldings. The staircase has a carved newel and turned balusters and is lit by a large roof light with leaded glass. The toilets have original tiles with decorations in an austere variant of Art Nouveau. In the back room on the ground floor are sliding doors to the conservatory with leaded glass, depicting a male and female deer in a hilly landscape with water.
Against the back facade on the left is a large STORAGE BUILDING built with a high brick plinth and further rendered facades with multi-pane windows. The hipped roof is covered with red Tuiles du Nord and contains a wide ventilation pipe on the ridge.
The front garden contains a low stone wall with an edging in red facing brick, upon which wrought-iron railings are mounted. The railings contain an access gate.
Valuation
Town house with storage building and railings around front garden from 1909 (storage building 1935) with influences of rationalism and Um 1800 style.
- Of architectural historical value as a well and faithfully preserved example of a town house with ornamentation influenced by rationalism and the Um 1800 style. The building stands out for its high-quality aesthetic properties, such as the advanced use of materials and the rich ornamentation. Characteristic are among others the ornamentation in the front facade and the components in the interior. There is an ensemble effect as part of the development along the Oranjesingel, within which the building belongs to the town houses that were common around 1900, which together with the older and later types and styles well represent the development of the construction of town houses.
- Of urban planning value through its location on the Oranjesingel. The street retains a well-preserved stock of historic houses that form an attractive and valuable street scene.
- Of cultural historical value as a recognisable element of a social development. The building was constructed as housing for the new and wealthy urban elite, who preferred to establish themselves in substantial town houses on the newly laid-out streets around the old town; an urban expansion that became possible with the removal of the fortifications at the end of the 19th century.
