Omschrijving
STANDBEELD van een in zandsteen gehouwen leeuw op een hardstenen sokkel. Het beeld is in 1886 of kort daarvoor gemaakt door beeldhouwer Henri Leeuw sr. (1819-1909) in samenwerking met zijn zoon Henri Leeuw jr. (1861-1918) naar een ontwerp van Eeuwes. Het beeld werd aangeboden door de "Vereeniging ter verfraaiing van Nijmegen" en in 1886 geplaatst in het Kronenburgerpark.
De meer dan levensgrote leeuw heeft een woeste uitdrukking met opengesperde muil. Hij heeft zijn kop iets naar links gewend. Het dier zit op zijn achterpoten. De voorpoten rusten op een wapenschild van de stad Nijmegen. De geprofileerde sokkel heeft een rechthoekig grondplan. De korte voorzijde van de sokkel is voorzien van de inscriptie: "AANGEBODEN / DOOR / DE VEREENIGING / TOT / VERFRAAIING VAN NIJMEGEN / 1886".

STATUE of a lion carved from sandstone on a hardstone plinth. The image was made in 1886 or shortly before by sculptor Henri Leeuw sr. (1819-1909) in collaboration with his son Henri Leeuw jr. (1861-1918) to a design by Eeuwes. The statue was presented by the "Association for the Embellishment of Nijmegen" and installed in the Kronenburgerpark in 1886.
The more than life-size lion has a fierce expression with gaping jaws. He has turned his head slightly to the left. The animal is sitting on its hind legs. The front paws rest on a coat of arms of the city of Nijmegen. The profiled plinth has a rectangular plan. The short front side of the plinth is provided with the inscription: "PRESENTED / BY / THE ASSOCIATION / FOR / THE EMBELLISHMENT OF NIJMEGEN / 1886".
