Omschrijving
Het Kronenburgerpark, dat wordt omsloten door de Kronenburgersingel en de Parkweg, en aan de zuidzijde door de bebouwing respectievelijk de bijbehorende tuinafscheidingen, heeft een sterk glooiende AANLEG uit 1880 op de voormalige verdedigingswerken in Engelse landschapsstijl, met een sierlijk gebogen padenpatroon, een langgerekte lobvormige vijver, uitgestrekte grasvelden en een gevarieerde beplanting.
Lange zichtlijnen doorsnijden het park, met name vanaf de hoger gelegen delen en de voormalige verdedigingstorens. De ca. 30 meter hoge Kronenburgertoren uit 1425 domineert het park. Deze voormalige verdedigingstoren wordt gedeeltelijk omsloten door de noordelijke lob van de vijver. In de zuidelijke lob van de vijver is een fontein geplaatst en een eilandje aangelegd. De vernauwing tussen deze twee lobben is benut voor de aanleg van een brug over de vijver. In de steile helling aan de zuidzijde van de vijver is een kunstmatige waterval annex grot aangelegd. Deze attractie is afgezet met een smeedijzeren spijlenhek.
De zeer gevarieerde beplanting van het park is samengesteld uit onder andere: de Italiaanse populier, de witte abeel, de rode en witte paardekastanje, de acacia, de linde, de plataan, de treurwilg, de zilverlinde, de taxus, de Canadese geweiboom, de den, de iep, de prieelberk, de magnolia en overigens diverse soorten esdoorn, eik, beuk en noteboom. De bomen zijn zowel in groepen als solitair gepland. In het meest zuidoostelijke deel van het park is in 1912 aan de voet van de St. Jacobstoren een hertenkamp aangelegd.

De parkaanleg ontleent haar kwaliteiten aan het behoud van bestaande karakteristieken van de voormalige vestingwerken (hoogteverschillen, historische muur met torens als romantisch element) en aan de toevoeging van nieuwe elementen (gevarieerde en bijzondere beplanting, waterval met kunstmatige grot en vijver).
- Van stedenbouwkundige waarde vanwege de markante ligging op de voormalige vestingwerken tussen de historische binnenstad en de zogenaamde 19de eeuwse gordel. Het Kronenburgerpark vormt een essentieel onderdeel van het stedenbouwkundig concept van de Nijmeegse 19de eeuwse uitleg. Door de markante situering vormt het park een belangrijk geledings- en verbindingselement in het stedenbouwkundig weefsel. The Kronenburgerpark, which is enclosed by the Kronenburgersingel and the Parkweg, and on the south side by buildings and their associated garden boundaries, has a strongly undulating LAYOUT dating from 1880 on the former defensive works in English landscape style, with an elegantly curved path pattern, an elongated lobe-shaped pond, extensive lawns and varied planting.
Long sight lines intersect the park, particularly from the higher-lying areas and the former defensive towers. The approximately 30-metre-high Kronenburgertoren from 1425 dominates the park. The trees are planted both in groups and as specimens. In the most south-eastern part of the park a deer enclosure was constructed in 1912 at the foot of the St. Jacobstoren.
