Inleiding
Derde COMPLEX ARBEIDERSWONINGEN van de Arbeidersbouwvereeniging Hilversum, gebouwd in 1914-1915, naar het ontwerp van E. Verschuyl in eclectische bouwtrant, waarbij Jugendstil-elementen en vakwerkdetails zijn gecombineerd. Het complex omvat 2 vijf-onder-één-kap en 6 zes-onder-één-kap arbeiderswoningen welke zijn gesitueerd langs de Egelantierstraat. Het geheel wordt gekenmerkt door een ruime opzet, zowel wat situering van de woningen betreft met voortuinen, ruime achtertuinen (waar men zelf groenten kon verbouwen en schapen houden) en brede paden ertussen, als wat ontwerp van de woningen zelf betreft. De vijf-onder-één-kap woningen bevinden zich aan de zuidwestzijde van de Egelantierstraat, waartussen 2 zes-onder-één-kap woningen. Aan de noordoostzijde van de Egelantierstraat staan 4 zes-onder-één-kapwoningen.
Omschrijving
Het derde woningcomplex bevat in opzet symmetrische woningen in twee typen, opgetrokken op een rechthoekige plattegrond met aanbouwen aan de achterzijde. De gevels zijn ter hoogte van het kalf van de vensters opgetrokken in rode baksteen en daarboven gepleisterd. Het zadeldak, oorspronkelijk bedekt met rode Hollandse pannen, heeft schoorstenen op de nok die evenwijdig aan de weg loopt. De onderdorpels, rollagen, hanenkammen boven de deuren, de sierlijst onder de daklijst en de ruitvormige decoratie in de topgevels zijn uitgevoerd in rode baksteen. Oorspronkelijk hadden de bovenlichten, een smal klapraam, en de draairamen van de vensters op de verdieping een roedenverdeling. De kleuren van de deuren zijn groen, wit en rood.
De voorgevel van het type waarin vijf woningen en éénmaal zes heeft twee topgevels met twee vensters en op de hoeken een portiek met bakstenen hoekstijl en borstwering. Andere deuren onder luifel. Deuren worden geflankeerd door een venster.
De zijgevels bevatten een venster op de begane grond en verdieping. De achtergevels bevatten oorspronkelijk openslaande deuren naast de aanbouw.

Third COMPLEX OF WORKERS' DWELLINGS of the Arbeidersbouwvereeniging Hilversum, built in 1914-1915, to the design of E. The whole is characterised by a spacious layout, both as regards the siting of the dwellings with front gardens, spacious back gardens (where one could grow vegetables and keep sheep) and wide paths between them, and as regards the design of the dwellings themselves. The five-unit terrace dwellings are located on the southwest side of the Egelantierstraat, between which 2 six-unit terraces. On the northeast side of the Egelantierstraat stand 4 six-unit terrace dwellings.
Description
The third housing complex contains in layout symmetrical dwellings in two types, built on a rectangular ground plan with extensions at the rear. The facades are built in red brick up to the height of the window sill and above this rendered. The gabled roof, originally covered with red Dutch tiles, has chimneys on the ridge that run parallel to the road. The window sills, roll mouldings, cock-combs above the doors, the decorative moulding under the roof line and the lozenge-shaped decoration in the gable ends are executed in red brick.
