Omschrijving
Binnen het vierde gemeentelijk woningbouwcomplex teruggerooid gesitueerd schoolgebouw, genaamd dr. H. Bavinckschool, in 1921-22 naar ontwerp van W.M. Dudok opgetrokken in baksteen op in oorsprong Z-vormige plattegrond met in- en uitspringende, kubische, plat afgedekte in elkaar grijpende bouwvolumes van wisselende hoogte, waarvan de muurvlakken worden doorbroken door verdiepte vensters.
De dwarsgeplaatste hoofdvleugel heeft twee bouwlagen, waarbij de hoofdingangen zich links in het teruggerooide gedeelte van de westgevel bevindt, voorzien van een langgerekte strook van verglaasde steen, en wordt gemarkeerd door een korte luifel en de L-vormige pleinmuur in het verlengde van de noordgevel. Het aansluitend, naar voren gerooide volume met inwendig trappehuis bevat verdiepte vensters met volgens geometrische patronen ingedeeld glas-in-lood-vulling en voorts een hoog opgaande schoorsteenpartij. Van de hoofdvleugel is de verdieping op halve breedte aan de zuidzijde hoger opgetrokken en is de zuidgevel voorzien van grote klaslokaal-vensters met horizontaal in twee maal een vierdeling onderverdeelde bovenlichten en ongelede benedenramen. In de noordgevel, die aan de westzijde een meer gesloten karakter heeft, hebben de in het oostelijk deel geplaatste verdieping-vensters een vierruits-verdeling, terwijl de beganegrond-vensters, evenals bij de andere vleugels, van een zesruits-verdeling zijn voorzien.
Aansluitend aan de zuidzijde bevindt zich de lage, elf venster-assen brede zuidwestvleugel, waarop haaks de zuidoostelijke, in verwante trant uitgevoerde, dwarsvleugel aansluit ter breedte van negen venster-assen en met neven-ingang aan het schoolplein.
Aansluitend aan de noordzijde, ter hoogte van het hoger opgetrokken oostwaarts in de hoofdvleugel geplaatste dwarsblok, de -gewijzigde- gymnastiekzaal-vleugel, in oorsprong onder met pannen gedekte mansardekap.
Schoolgebouw met voor de derde fase in de oeuvre-ontwikkeling van het werk van Dudok kenmerkende architectuur wegens de plastische toepassing van kubische bouwvolumes, gematigd-expressionistische details en markante schoorsteen, als zodanig van belang uit architectuurhistorisch en stilistisch oogpunt.

Description
Within the fourth municipal housing construction complex, a school building set back, named dr. H. Bavinckschool, erected in 1921-22 to the design of W.M. Dudok in brick on an originally Z-shaped floor plan with recessed and projecting, cubic, flat-roofed interlocking building volumes of varying height, of which the wall surfaces are broken through by recessed windows.
The transversally positioned main wing has two storeys, whereby the main entrances are located on the left in the recessed section of the west facade, furnished with an elongated band of glazed brick, and is marked by a short canopy and the L-shaped courtyard wall in the extension of the north facade. The adjoining, forward-projecting volume with internal staircase contains recessed windows with glass-in-lead infill divided according to geometric patterns and furthermore a tall rising chimney section. Of the main wing, the first floor is raised to half the width on the south side and the south facade is furnished with large classroom windows with horizontally subdivided fanlights in two times a quarter division and unglazed lower frames. In the north facade, which has a more closed character on the west side, the first floor windows positioned in the eastern section have a four-pane division, whilst the ground floor windows, as with the other wings, are furnished with a six-pane division.
Adjacent on the south side is located the low southwest wing eleven window-bays wide, onto which at right angles the southeastern transverse wing adjoins, executed in related manner, to a width of nine window-bays and with secondary entrance at the school courtyard.
Adjacent on the north side, at the height of the higher raised eastward positioned transverse block in the main wing, the -modified- gymnasium wing, originally under a tile-covered mansard roof.
School building with architecture characteristic of the third phase in the oeuvre development of the work of Dudok due to the plastic application of cubic building volumes, moderately expressionist details and striking chimney, as such of importance from an architectural-historical and stylistic point of view.
