Inleiding
Bij de in 1882 gebouwde watertoren staand POMPSTATION voor de verwerking en de zuivering van grondwater ten behoeve van de drinkwatervoorziening. Het uit 1941-1942 daterende pompstation met kantoorruimtes, een onthardings- en filtergebouw en een schakelruimte is gebouwd in opdracht van de Gemeentelijke Hoogdrukwaterleiding in de stijl van de Nieuwe Zakelijkheid met invloeden van Dudok. Het gebouw is prominent gesitueerd aan de Oranjesingel bij het terrein van het Energiebedrijf en de watertoren.
Omschrijving
Het pompstation heeft een uit verschillende rechthoeken samengestelde plattegrond en is boven een plint van zwart geglazuurde baksteen opgetrokken in gele baksteen. De rechthoekige bouwvolumes hebben platte daken met mastiekdekking en overstekende grindbetonnen dakranden. De volumes herbergen een entreegebouw met kantoor, een pompgebouw, een schakelruimte, een onthardingsgebouw en zijn respectievelijk één, twee, twee en half en één bouwlaag hoog. Het gebouw heeft rechthoekige vensters met zes-, acht- en tienruits-vensters. De vensters zijn gevat in geprofileerde, kunststenen omlijstingen met aan de bovenzijde een gestileerde kuif en aan de onderzijde vensterbanken die rusten op twee kleine consoles. Voorts zijn er een aantal ronde en rechthoekige vensters met ijzeren ramen. De hoge schakelruimte en het onthardingsgebouw zijn voorzien van een gemetselde schoorsteen met een uitkragende betonnen dekplaat.
Het symmetrische vooraanzicht heeft centraal een laag, rechthoekig avant corps met in het midden een portiek, bereikbaar via vijf grindbetonnen traptreden. De entree heeft dubbele deuren met smalle deurlichten. Het portiek heeft een betonnen vloerplaat en een betonnen luifel. Aan weerszijden van de ingang bevindt zich een oeil-de-boeuf met roedenverdeling in het ijzeren raam en rondom een rollaag met een betonnen sluitsteen en aan de onderzijde een afwateringssteentje. De linker zijgevel van het avant corps bevat drie tweedelige venstertjes met ijzeren raampjes, in de rechter zijgevel bevindt zich een zesruits venster. In de hoge gevel achter en boven dit lage bouwdeel staan vijf zesruits-vensters.
De linker zijgevel van het pompgebouw heeft drie hoge tienruits-vensters, het daarachter gelegen lagere volume (onthardingsgebouw) heeft vijf achtruits-vensters. De tussengelegen hoge schakelruimte heeft vier kleine tweeledige vensters en op de teruggelegen verdieping twee ijzeren achtruitsvensters en onder de dakrand drie drieledige ijzeren vensters, allen aan de bovenzijde voorzien van een betonnen latei en aan de onderzijde van zwart geglazuurde tegels.
In de achtergevel bevindt zich een reeks van negen zesruits-vensters en ter hoogte van het souterrain een ijzeren luik.
De rechter zijgevel van het pompgebouw heeft drie hoge tienruits-vensters. De hier haaks opstaande, naar de Oranjelaan gerichte gevel van het onthardingsgebouw bevat vier achtruits-vensters, de kop gevel hier rechts is voorzien van een reeks van vijf achtruits-vensters. De schakelruimte heeft twee ijzeren zesruits-vensters en een ijzeren deur, op de verdieping zijn dubbele laaddeuren onder een hijsbalk geplaatst en een driedelig venster.
Waardering
Het pompstation is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, de architectuurhistorische en de ensemblewaarde.

Introduction
At the water tower built in 1882 a PUMP STATION for the processing and purification of groundwater for drinking water supply. The pump station dating from 1941-1942 with office spaces, a softening and filter building and a switchroom was built on the instructions of the Municipal High-Pressure Water Line in the style of Nieuwe Zakelijkheid with influences of Dudok. The building is prominently situated on the Oranjesingel at the site of the Energy Company and the water tower.
Description
The pump station has a floor plan composed of various rectangles and is constructed in yellow brick above a plinth of black glazed brick. The rectangular building volumes have flat roofs with mastic cladding and projecting gravel concrete roof edges. The volumes house an entrance building with office, a pump building, a switchroom, a softening building and are respectively one, two, two and a half and one storey high. The building has rectangular windows with six-, eight- and ten-light windows. The windows are set in profiled, stone-cast surrounds with a stylised coping at the top and window sills at the bottom resting on two small consoles. Furthermore there are a number of round and rectangular windows with iron frames. The tall switchroom and the softening building are provided with a mortared chimney with a projecting concrete slab.
The symmetrical front elevation has centrally a low, rectangular avant-corps with a porch in the middle, reached via five gravel concrete steps. The entrance has double doors with narrow door lights. The porch has a concrete floor slab and a concrete canopy. On either side of the entrance is an oeil-de-boeuf with glazing bars in the iron frame and around it a roller blind with a concrete keystroke and at the bottom a drainage stone. The left side gavel of the avant-corps contains three two-part small windows with iron frames, in the right side gable is a six-light window. In the tall gable behind and above this low building section stand five six-light windows.
The left side gable of the pump building has three tall ten-light windows, the lower volume located behind it (softening building) has five eight-light windows. The intermediate tall switchroom has four small two-part windows and on the recessed floor two iron eight-light windows and under the roof edge three three-part iron windows, all at the top provided with a concrete lintel and at the bottom with black glazed tiles.
In the rear gable is a series of nine six-light windows and at basement level an iron hatch.
The right side gable of the pump building has three tall ten-light windows. The here perpendicular, facing the Oranjelaan gable of the softening building contains four eight-light windows, the head gable here right is provided with a series of five eight-light windows. The switchroom has two iron six-light windows and an iron door, on the floor above are double loading doors placed under a hoist beam and a three-part window.
