Inleiding
KANTOOR 'De Kievit' van de pakhuischef, deel uitmakend van het pellerijcomplex 'Mercurius' en gebouwd in 1911 in de trant van de Overgangsarchitectuur. Het kantoor bevindt zich tussen de pakhuizen 'Donau' (rechts) en 'Oslo/Silo' (links) en is in stijl identiek aan laatstgenoemd pakhuis. Het naar de rivier gekeerde kantoor maakt deel uit van het gevarieerde industriële landschap langs de Zaanoevers waarin voedsel-, olie- en houtindustrie domineerden en het vervoer over water een essentiële vestigingsvoorwaarde was.

Het kantoor aan de westzijde van pakhuis 'Silo/Oslo' is over vier bouwlagen, de bovenste twee terugwijkend, in grauw/rood bakstenen kruisverband opgetrokken op een smalle rechthoekige plattegrond onder een met mastiek en kiezels gedekt plat dak. Het één travee brede kantoor heeft op de begane grond en de eerste verdieping een getoogd zesruits venster, op de tweede en derde verdieping een vierruits rechtgesloten venster.

Het uit 1911 daterende kantoor 'De Kievit' is van algemeen belang wegens architectuur- en cultuurhistorische waarde als historisch-functioneel onderdeel van het pellerijcomplex 'Mercurius'. OFFICE 'De Kievit' of the warehouse chief, forming part of the pellet mill complex 'Mercurius' and built in 1911 in the manner of Transitional architecture. Description
The office on the west side of warehouse 'Silo/Oslo' is constructed in grey/red brick in cross bond over four storeys, the top two set back, on a narrow rectangular ground plan under a flat roof covered with mastic and gravel. The one-bay-wide office has on the ground floor and first floor an arched six-pane window, on the second and third floors a four-pane right-angled window.
