Inleiding
RIFFELLOKAAL (of miagmolen), onderdeel uitmakend van het complex meelfabriek 'De Sleutels', gebouwd in 1937. Het riffellokaal/miagmolengebouw is uitgevoerd in een aan het Nieuwe Bouwen ontleende bouwstijl. Het gebouw vormt mede de westelijke begrenzing van de fabrieksstraat. Tegen de noordelijke kopgevel werd in 1947 het molengebouw geplaatst, dat ten opzichte van de centrale as van beide gebouwen iets westelijker ligt. Het riffellokaal bezit een globaal rechthoekig grondplan en is begane gronds in rode baksteen en boven, gescheiden door een omlopende waterlijst in gele baksteen (noords verband) opgetrokken.
Omschrijving
De gevels van het acht bouwlagen tellende fabriekspand worden ingenomen door door stalen roeden ingedeelde lintvensters gevat tussen uitkragende vensterdorpeltegels en kunststenen latei. De vensters bevatten geschakelde kantelraampjes. De tweede bouwlaag is ten opzichte van de overige in hoogte afwijkend. Aan de zuidzijde van de oostgevel is een grotendeels beglaasde luchtbrug geslagen naar het tegenoverliggende silogebouw uit 1937. In deze oostgevel komt ook per verdieping een hijsluikopening voor onder een in het midden van de gevel geplaatste hijsbalk onder de borstwering van de dakrand. De in de zuidelijke eindgevel aangebrachte luchtbrug, is van ondergeschikte betekenis voor de bescherming. Het interieur van het riffellokaal bevat een volledig geklonken staalskelet met gewalste kolommen bestaande uit versterkte breedflensprofielen, waarop kinderbinten en een houten planken vloer en een afdekvloer. Deze samenstelling en materiaalkeuze stond vrijelijk het verplaatsen van machines en onderdelen als drijfriemen toe, als het (verdiepingsgewijze) productieproces daarom vroeg.

RIFFEL HALL (or miag mill), component forming part of the flour mill complex 'De Sleutels', built in 1937.
