Inleiding
SCHOOL en SCHOOLMEESTERSWONING uit 1861 met aan de neogotiek verwante detaillering. De voorgevel van het samengestelde bouwvolume vormt de noordwestwand van het plein waaraan ook het gemeentehuis is gesitueerd. Het schoolgebouw is in de jaren zeventig van deze eeuw aan de achterzijde uitgebreid, deze aanbouw is voor de bescherming van ondergeschikt belang; inwendig is het verbouwd tot gymzaal.
Omschrijving
Het samengestelde pand bestaat uit twee rechthoekige bouwvolumes van verschillende grootte, opgetrokken in bruine baksteen onder een dubbel zadeldak met gesmoorde Hollandse pannen. Aan de pleinzijde twee tuitgevels (zuidoost) met deklijsten en in de geveltoppen uitgemetselde spitsboogfriezen. De gevels zijn geleed door lisenen en voorzien van decoratief metselwerk in gele baksteen. In de voorgevel van het woonhuis zesruits vensters en links een hoge paneeldeur onder een bovenlicht. Boven de gevelopeningen profiellijsten van gele baksteen, die op de begane grond zijn doorgetrokken. Onder de verdiepingvensters een gepleisterde waterlijst. De voorgevel van de voormalige school is gedecoreerd met speklagen, sierstenen en verticale sierbanden van gele baksteen. Voor het midden van de voorgevel een entreeportaal met zadeldak en een dubbele paneeldeur onder een halfrond bovenlicht. Het portaal wordt geflankeerd door lisenen die doorlopen tot aan het boogfries. In de spaarvelden tussen de lisenen twee zestienruits vensters met diagonale roedenverdeling in de getoogde bovenlichten en in de geveltop een getoogd zestienruits venster. Gepleisterde gevelplaten met het opschrift 'anno 1861' en 'school'. De zijgevel van het schoolgebouw (noordoost) wordt geleed door zes traveeën met zestienruits vensters in spaarvelden tussen lisenen. In de getoogde bovenlichten een diagonale roedenverdeling. Onder de gootlijst een iets uitgemetseld fries met tandlijst en siermetselwerk van gele baksteen. Tuitgevels aan de achterzijde (noordwest) met een eenvoudig uitgemetseld fries. In de geveltop van de school een getoogd venster identiek aan dat in de voorgevel. In de gevel van het woonhuis een deur met bovenlicht en zes- en achtruits vensters.
Waardering
De school en schoolmeesterwoning zijn van algemeen belang vanweg de cultuurhistorische waarde als representatief en vrij gaaf voorbeeld van een dorpsschoolcomplex uit 1861.

Description
The combined building consists of two rectangular building volumes of different sizes, built in brown brick under a double gabled roof with suppressed Dutch tiles. On the green side two spout gables (southeast) with coping strips and pointed arch friezes worked out in the gable tops. The facades are articulated by pilasters and provided with decorative brickwork in yellow brick. In the front façade of the residence six-pane windows and on the left a tall panelled door under a fanlight. Above the gable openings profile strips of yellow brick, which are continued on the ground floor. Below the first-floor windows a rendered drip moulding. The front façade of the former school is decorated with speckle courses, ornamental stones and vertical ornamental bands of yellow brick. In front of the middle of the front façade an entrance portal with gabled roof and a double panelled door under a round fanlight. The portal is flanked by pilasters that extend to the arch frieze. In the spandrels between the pilasters two sixteen-pane windows with diagonal glazing bars in the arched fanlights and in the gable top an arched sixteen-pane window. Rendered gable plaques with the inscription 'anno 1861' and 'school'. The side gable of the school building (northeast) is articulated by six bays with sixteen-pane windows in spandrels between pilasters. In the arched fanlights a diagonal glazing bar pattern. Below the cornice a slightly projecting frieze with dentil course and ornamental brickwork of yellow brick. Spout gables at the rear (northwest) with a simply worked out frieze. In the gable top of the school an arched window identical to that in the front façade. In the gable of the residence a door with fanlight and six- and eight-pane windows.
