Inleiding
Rijtje ARBEIDERSWONINGEN, plaatselijk 'damwoningen' genoemd, gebouwd voor de huisvesting van arbeiders en schoenmakers. De huizen staan op de oorspronkelijke achterterreinen van de fabrikantenvilla's aan de Grotestraat, aan de Hooisteeg die tussen Grotestraat en Winterdijk loopt, oplopend in hoogte naar de Winterdijk toe.
Omschrijving
Rij éénlaags woningen, op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder doorlopend zadeldak waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de steeg loopt. De huizen zijn uitgevoerd in handgevormde baksteen met een tandlijst en een gepleisterde plint aan de voorzijde, het dak is gedekt met oud-Hollandse pannen. Elke woning is drie traveeën breed en heeft een opgeklampte deur met aan weerszijden getoogd zesruits schuifraam. Boven de deuren is in het dakvlak een houten dakkapel met dubbel raam en plat dak geplaatst.
De kopse gevel van Hooisteeg 12 is gepleisterd en heeft een vierruits raam in de top. De achtergevel heeft verschillende dichtgezette raam- en deuropeningen.
Waardering
De huizen zijn van algemeen belang. De huizen zijn van cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling waarbij de groepsgewijze huisvesting van arbeiders in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van de fabriek steeds belangrijker werd. De huizen zijn een inmiddels uiterst zeldzaam voorbeeld van het bouwtype.

Introduction
Row of WORKERS' HOUSES, locally called 'dam houses', built for the housing of workers and shoemakers. The houses stand on the original rear grounds of the manufacturers' villas on the Grotestraat, on the Hooisteeg which runs between Grotestraat and Winterdijk, rising in height towards the Winterdijk.
Description
Row of single-storey dwellings, on a rectangular floor plan under continuous gabled roof the ridge of which runs parallel to the alley. The houses are executed in handmade brick with a tooth course and a plastered plinth on the front side, the roof is covered with Dutch tiles. Each dwelling is three bays wide and has a rabbeted door with arched six-pane sash windows on either side. Above the doors a wooden roof dormer with double window and flat roof has been placed in the roof plane.
The gable end of Hooisteeg 12 is plastered and has a four-pane window in the top. The rear gable has various sealed window and door openings.
Valuation
The houses are of general importance. The houses are of cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of a socio-economic and typological development whereby group housing of workers in the immediate vicinity of the factory became increasingly important. The houses are a by now extremely rare example of the building type.
