Inleiding

Introduction

The eclectic HOUSE was built in 1887 on the instructions of J.N. de Roon. Behind this house there are older outbuildings, which possibly date from the eighteenth century. The building stands at a crossroads.

Description

The single-storey building has five bays and a rectangular floor plan. The facades are constructed of hand-formed brick and the ridge of the gabled roof with black cross tiles runs parallel to the street. The plinth and window sills are of hard stone. The front facade is articulated vertically by corner pilasters and a projecting central entrance section.

The arched T-windows have a plastered surround with ears and hoods with acroteria, as does the centrally placed front door with arched fanlight. The wing doors are provided with cassettes, the leaf of an ornamental moulding. Against the hard stone step at the front door stands on both sides a vaulted pedestal, with leaf and flower motif and rustication.

The facade stone to the right of the front door indicates that the foundation stone was laid on 1 July 1887 by J.N. de Roon.

The broad plastered frieze is corniced and provided with rustication fields and consoles with leaf and flower motif.

Beneath the gutter line is provided in a narrow ornamental moulding. This list is interrupted for a zinc roof dormer. This has an oeil-de-boeuf window, beneath which various decorations such as a neo-empire wreath and flower. The cheeks bend in and out, beneath the vaulted moulding an egg-and-dart moulding and as a crown a flower.

On either side of the dormer small tilting windows were placed around 1980. The side facades are constructed as spout gables with a chimney on the corner and straight wall anchors. The chimney of the left facade has been demolished.

The right side facade has a narrow arched corner window with plastering. At the far left are two arched six-pane sash windows and in the middle on the upper floor another such window. Next to this is a round window with iron oval division installed. The left side facade is identical. The rear facade of the building is largely hidden from view by the outbuildings, beneath a gabled roof and beneath a flat roof. The building element beneath the gabled roof placed at right angles to the main mass has old Dutch roof tiles. The section with the flat roof is undercellared and probably dates from the eighteenth century.

In front of the house stand three large chestnut trees. The grounds of the house are enclosed at the front by a wrought iron fence with a double row of arrow points and fluted iron posts on which a cone is placed.

Valuation

The house is of general importance. The house is of cultural-historical importance as an example of the social-economic and typological development of the dwelling house. Architecturally it is important because of the quality of the eclectic stylistic elements and ornaments applied. The building is important because of its intactness, its location at an old crossroads and its striking landscape setting.
