SHORT-GABLED FARMHOUSE under a gabled roof with the ridge perpendicular to the Nieuwevaart. The partially cellared single-storey building is constructed in Flemish bond IJssel brick under a gabled roof with muted Dutch pan tiles between spout gables with roll moulding. The roof at the rear section is fitted with modern embossed brick-pattern tiles from around 1990. At the height of the rear section, machine-made brick is also used. The spout gable has a stepped termination with top pilaster and wrought-iron coping. Plastered plinth and above the windows the characteristic bands in red brick. Straight wall anchors in all walls. In the front gable with three bays, to the left of centre is the entrance with hardstone threshold and panel door with leaded fanlight. Left and right six-pane sash windows with clamped shutters. Two identical windows without shutters on the storey above. Before the house is a raised brick step with bollards and wrought-iron gates with scrolls at the corners of the front gable, in front of which a semi-paved "driveway" as occurs more frequently at the Nieuwevaart. The left gable contains at the height of the residential section respectively a barred cellar window, casement window, sash window with divided fanlight, attic window and back door. In the business section a semi-circular iron stable window. On the right gable is a six-pane sash window with thumb grips in the frame at the location of the front section. Further to the right the smithy function is expressed in a clamped door with low fanlight, two tall twelve-pane sash windows in frames with mortise and tenon joints and a low wooden door. Entirely to the right in this gable a four-pane window and stable door. On the right side is the iron hoof-stable. The rear gable is constructed in Flemish bond IJssel brick with wickerwork and fitted with double carriage doors with a segmental-arched passage door. Under the apex and to the left a semicircular iron window, a stable door behind a semi-circular arched brick opening and segmental-arched iron twelve-pane stable window. The structure and fixtures of the residential house have been preserved to a high degree. The hallway is laid with tiles. From the hall panel doors provide access to the front rooms. In the large right room is a heavy marble chimney and a well-preserved wooden alcove wall with bed alcove, cupboard and former bed alcove between pilasters and closed by a wide moulded skirting. In the left – partially cellared – room the alcove wall, originally accessible from both sides, has been converted into a cupboard and a passage to the living room. Within it lie the hearth, the stairs to the deep cellar and loft, doors to the hall and smithy with a small hatch beside it. On the storey above behind each window is a bedroom. Behind the firewall lie the current kitchen and the smithy, together built as a flat box within the barn. The inventory of the smithy is largely intact. The residential section contains the original roof truss, the rear section two overstretched collar-tie trusses on one side. To the left of the house an iron gate with white arrow-head, obelisk and pineapple decoration provides access to the gravel path to the rear entrance. A beech hedge forms the boundary between the road and the vegetable garden. Behind the farmhouse stands an old walnut tree and lies the orchard with four standard fruit trees.

Assessment

The farmhouse with courtyard and courtyard planting has cultural-historical value as an expression of a socio-economic development shaped by the agricultural function, typical of the region.
