Inleiding
VILLA, gebouwd in 1933 naar ontwerp van gemeente-architect H. de Hoop in een op de architectuur van Kropholler geïnspireerde traditionele stijl. De vormgeving die Kropholler voor zijn raadhuis gebruikte vond in Waalwijk veel navolging, onder meer door H. de Hoop, een leerling van Kropholler. Oorspronkelijk was dit de ambtswoning van de burgemeester. In 1960 is het huis uitgebreid met een garage.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags bakstenen woonhuis onder een geknikt zadeldak waarvan de nok haaks op de straat staat. Het dak met een breed overstek op klossen is gedekt met verbeterde Hollandse pannen. Tegen de achterste helft van de rechterzijgevel is een aanbouw onder lessenaarsdak geplaatst. Hierin bevindt zich een portiek met rondboogdeur. Tegen de linkerzijgevel is een éénlaagse bouwmassa onder plat dak geplaatst. Aan de voorzijde is deze voorzien van een borstwering. De aanbouw verbindt de woning met het buurpand. De voorgevel heeft aan de linkerkant twee rondboogramen met een roedenverdeling. Rechts bevinden zich rechthoekige ramen. De rechthoekige ramen op de verdieping en in de zijgevel zijn veelal twee aan twee geplaatst. Links van de deur zijn staande ramen met glas-in-lood aangebracht. De ramen liggen diep ingesneden in de gevel. De aanzetstenen van de ontlastingsbogen en lateien boven de ramen zijn steeds in natuursteen uitgevoerd.
Voor het pand ligt een kleine tuin, van de straat gescheiden door een laag muurtje met ezelsrug.
Waardering
De villa is van algemeen belang. De villa is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een cultuurhistorische en sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, waarbij door de gegoede burgerij teruggegrepen werd op een traditionele vormgeving. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de gebruikte traditionele vormgeving in het voetspoor van Kropholler. De villa is van belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur omdat met name in het Waalwijk van na 1930 de tegenstelling tussen een traditionele en een meer moderne vormgeving in de bouwwerken tot uitdrukking komt.

Description
Two-storey brick residential house under a bent gabled roof with the ridge running perpendicular to the street. The roof with a wide overhang on corbels is covered with improved Dutch tiles. Against the rear half of the right side facade an extension under a lean-to roof has been placed. In this is situated a portico with round arch door. Against the left side facade a single-storey structure under a flat roof has been placed. At the front this is furnished with a parapet. The extension connects the residence with the neighbouring building. The front facade has on the left two round arch windows with glazing bars. On the right are rectangular windows. The rectangular windows on the first floor and in the side facade are mostly placed two by two. Left of the door are tall windows with stained glass have been installed. The windows are set deep into the facade. The responding stones of the relieving arches and lintels above the windows are always executed in natural stone.
In front of the building is a small garden, separated from the street by a low wall with a saddle-back top.
