HERENHUIS, gebouwd in circa 1875 in eclectische stijl. Oorspronkelijk een woonhuis, nu geheel als kantoor in gebruik.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags woonhuis, oorspronkelijk op een L-vormige plattegrond. De voorste bouwmassa heeft een schilddak waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de straat loopt. Het dak is gedekt met kruispannen. De bouwmassa daarachter heeft een plat dak. Deze was oorspronkelijke rechthoekig. Rond 1990 is er tegen de zijgevel, aan de kant van het aangrenzende pand (Grotestraat 148) een kleine bouwmassa toegevoegd die de L-vorm afsloot zodat een kleine binnenplaats is ontstaan.
De bakstenen voorgevel heeft een natuurstenen plint. De gevel is vijf traveeën breed en voorzien van hoekpilasters en pilasters ter accentuering van de middentravee. De pilasters zijn voorzien van gepleisterde banden. Horizontaal aangebrachte banden onder de ramen en een geprofileerde waterlijst verlevendigen de gevel. De gevel wordt bekroond door een kroonlijst met bloktandlijst en consoles ter ondersteuning van de gootlijst.
In de middentravee is een dubbele houten deur geplaatst. Aan de voorzijde bevindt zich een klein hardstenen trapje. Aan weerszijden van de deur zijn schuiframen aangebracht. De ramen en deur hebben bovenlichten met glas-in-lood en zijn in gestucte omlijstingen gevat, bekroond door een kuif. Boven de deur een rechthoekig balkon op gestucte consoles. Het balkon zelf is voorzien van openslaande deuren en heeft een smeedijzeren hek. Aan weerszijden T-ramen in een omlijsting als op de begane grond. Onder alle ramen is een hardstenen decoratieve band aangebracht.
Het voorste gedeelte van de rechterzijgevel is blind. Daarachter heeft de gevel een later aangebrachte deur. De oorspronkelijke zij-ingang, nog van het huisnummer 146a voorzien, is vervangen door een raam. Op de verdieping bevindt zich een kleiner raam.
De achtergevel heeft aan de linkerkant openslaande terrasdeuren, in de tuin is een terras aangelegd. Dit terras is met cementtegels met polychrome geometrische patronen bestraat. Rechts daarvan het bouwblok uit circa 1990. Erachter strekt zich een diepe tuin uit.
In het interieur is de oorspronkelijke indeling in grote lijnen bewaard gebleven. Een hoge gang deelt het pand in tweeën, aan de rechterkant, ongeveer in het midden bevindt zich een trappartij. Het huis is aan de rechterkant gedeeltelijk onderkelderd. De kelder is voorzien van plavuizen en heeft in de zijgevel kelderlichten. De ruimte wordt overkluisd door gepleisterde troggewelfjes op ijzeren liggers. In de keuken, rechts van de gang, zijn inbouwkasten en een schouw aanwezig. Andere belangrijke elementen zijn onder andere de eikenhouten lambrisering en schouw in de achterkamer en de marmeren vloertegels en lambrisering in de gang. Tegen de wanden van de gang zijn pilasters aangebracht.
Waardering
Het herenhuis is van algemeen belang. Het pand is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling van de woning voor de gegoede burgerij. The front part of the right side facade is blank. Behind it the facade has a later-added door. The original side entrance, still provided with house number 146a, has been replaced by a window. On the storey above there is a smaller window.
The rear facade has opening terrace doors on the left side; a terrace has been laid out in the garden. This terrace is paved with cement tiles with polychrome geometric patterns. To the right of this the building block from around 1990. Behind it extends a deep garden.
Interiorly, the original layout has been preserved in broad outline. A high corridor divides the building in two; on the right side, roughly in the middle, there is a staircase.
