Inleiding
PAKHUIS, gebouwd in 1903 in een stijl met elementen van neorenaissance. In 1918 werd het pakhuis in opdracht van Ant. van Iersel verbouwd tot fabriek, hierbij werd vooral het interieur gewijzigd. Het gebouw ligt op de hoek van de Gedempte Haven en de Dijkstraat aan het nu geheel bestrate plein. Het is een herinnering aan de oorspronkelijke haven en thans in gebruik als winkel en wijnhuis.
Omschrijving
Groot bakstenen pand op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een samengesteld (dubbel) mansardedak. Het dak is gedekt met zwarte kruispannen. De voorgevel bestaat uit dikke muren met diep gelegen getoogde ramen en deuropeningen. Segmentbogen daarboven zijn als strekken uitgevoerd. Uitkragende gemetselde hoekpartijen steken iets boven de dakrand uit. De oorspronkelijke spitse bekroning van deze hoeken is inmiddels verdwenen. Tussen de daken, in het midden van de voorgevel, is een eveneens uitkragende kleine torenachtige opbouw met zinken spits geplaatst. Daaronder bevindt zich een geschilderd vlak, oorspronkelijk met de bedrijfsnaam. De beide topgevels hebben smalle rondboogramen, rechts met een hijsinrichting. Daaronder zijn luiken aangebracht. In gele strengperssteen zijn speklagen aangebracht.
Tussen de deuren is een gevelsteen met opschrift: "EERSTE STEEN GELEGD/DOOR/ LOUISE VAN IERSEL/19 30-8 03" ingemetseld. In de linkerzijgevel aan de Dijkstraat zijn rolluiken voor de ramen geplaatst. De plaats van de ramen heeft enkele wijzigingen ondergaan. Een hijsluik steekt iets door de dakrand heen. Direct onder de goot een tandlijst.
Ook de achtergevel heeft diepliggende getoogde ramen. Het linkerdeel heeft een opbouw, uitgevoerd in baksteen met golfplaten, op de achterzijde van het dak.
In het interieur is de oorspronkelijke indeling bewaard gebleven. Op de begane grond zijn bakstenen troggewelfjes op ijzeren I-profielen.
Waardering
Het pakhuis is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het pakhuis. Het heeft industrieel-archeologische waarde. Het heeft ensemblewaarden in relatie tot de overige gebouwen aan de voormalige haven van Waalwijk.

WAREHOUSE, built in 1903 in a style with elements of neo-renaissance. Description
Large brick building on a rectangular ground plan under a composite (double) mansard roof. The roof is covered with black hip tiles. The front facade consists of thick walls with deeply recessed arched windows and doorways. Segmental arches above are executed as stretches. Projecting mortared corner sections slightly protrude above the roof edge. The original pointed capping of these corners has since disappeared. Between the roofs, in the middle of the front facade, a similarly projecting small tower-like superstructure with zinc spire is placed. Below it is a painted surface, originally with the business name. Both gable ends have narrow round-arch windows, on the right with a hoisting device. Below them shutters are placed. Yellow pressed brick speckled courses are applied.
Between the doors a wall stone is embedded with the inscription: "EERSTE STEEN GELEGD/DOOR/ LOUISE VAN IERSEL/19 30-8 03". In the left side facade on the Dijkstraat roller shutters are placed for the windows. The position of the windows has undergone some changes. A hoisting shutter protrudes slightly through the roof edge. Directly below the gutter a tooth moulding.
The rear facade also has deeply recessed arched windows. The left part has a superstructure, executed in brick with corrugated sheets, on the rear side of the roof.
In the interior the original layout has been preserved. On the ground floor are brick barrel vaults on iron I-profiles.
Valuation
The warehouse is of general importance. The building is of cultural-historical importance as an expression of a socio-economic development and as an example of the typological development of the warehouse. It has industrial-archaeological value. It has ensemble values in relation to the other buildings at the former harbour of Waalwijk.
