Inleiding
WINKEL-WOONHUIS "'t Slot", gebouwd in 1941 als ijzerwarenhandel met woonhuis. Het pand ligt op de rechterhoek van het Raadhuisplein met de Grotestraat.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags pand op een rechthoekige plattegrond, onder een zadeldak waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de Grotestraat loopt. Het dak is gedekt met romaanse pannen.
Het winkelpand heeft een overhoekse steunbeer op de hoek van Grotestraat en Raadhuisplein. Aan de voorzijde is op de begane grond een galerij met grote rondbogen op dikke hardstenen zuilen. De zuilen hebben dobbelsteen kapitelen met een gegraveerd ruitpatroon in de rand. Daarachter bevindt zich in het midden van de voorgevel een rondboogdeur met hardstenen trapje. Aan weerszijden zijn grote rondboog-etalageramen aangebracht. Op de verdieping, boven de galerij, zijn rechthoekige ramen geplaatst. De topgevel heeft een kanteelachtige beëindiging. In de topgevel is een tegeltableau aangebracht met daarop de voorstelling van een hangslot in een krans, erbij het opschrift: "'T SLOT". De rechterzijgevel heeft grote boogramen bijna tot op de grond, met natuurstenen vensterbanken. Op de verdieping zijn zesruits ramen aangebracht. In het midden van het dakvlak bevindt zich een dakkapel. Deze heeft een zadeldakje met windveer en betimmerde topgevel.
Achter tegen het huis is een lagere bouwmassa (anderhalve laag) onder plat dak gezet. Het balkon is voorzien van een bakstenen borstwering. In de gevel een deur en rond raampje.
Waardering
Het winkel-woonhuis is van algemeen belang. Het pand is van cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde wegens vormgeving en materiaalgebruik. Het heeft ensemblewaarde als essentieel onderdeel van het geheel.

Two-storey building on a rectangular footprint, under a gabled roof of which the ridge runs parallel to Grotestraat. The roof is covered with Roman tiles.
The shop building has a corner buttress on the corner of Grotestraat and Raadhuisplein. On the front, on the ground floor is a gallery with large round arches on thick hard stone columns. The columns have double-stone capitals with an engraved diamond pattern in the edge. Behind it, in the centre of the front elevation, is a round-arched door with hard stone step. On either side are large round-arched shop windows. On the upper floor, above the gallery, are rectangular windows. The top gable has a crenellated finish. In the top gable is a tile panel with a depiction of a padlock in a wreath, with the inscription: "'T SLOT". The right side elevation has large arch windows almost down to the ground, with natural stone windowsills. On the upper floor are six-pane windows. In the centre of the roof plane is a roof dormer.
