Inleiding.

Introduction.

A MANSION situated on the south side of the Hoogstraat within the built-up area of Standdaarbuiten, with two storeys at the front and one storey at the rear. The building possibly has an 18th-century core. The Eclectic front facade with some Neoclassical elements dates from the mid-19th century. The building was later heightened at the front (the left side gable still shows the traces of the earlier roof line). The building formerly served as the house of the bailiff and was the seat of the village administration. Furthermore there is a barn here, possibly mid-19th century. The object has undergone only minor alterations. The windows on the upper floor within the right side gable are modern replacements. The roof is modern.

Description.

The mansion has a rectangular ground plan and consists of two storeys at the front and one storey at the rear. The building has a gabled roof that is modern and runs with the ridge parallel to the street. At the ridge ends there is a brick chimney. The roof slopes contain several roof lights. The front facade is rendered in block bond and is finished at the top by a rendered main cornice with consoles supporting the cornice. The right side gable as well as the rear gable are rendered and provided with wrought iron bar anchors. The visible brickwork of the left side gable (in cross bond) has remained exposed. The visible traces indicate the original roof pitch (prior to the heightening of the front facade). Here too there are wrought iron bar anchors. Both side gables moreover each contain two wrought iron scroll anchors. The windows within the front facade have rendered surrounds with a like-rendered keystone. They contain within the first storey a six-pane sash window and within the second storey a four-pane window. The frames are rebated and provided with a beading profile. The vertical window mullions are provided with an Empire groove. Within the first storey the windows contain a wooden sill, on the upper floor they are provided with a hard stone sill. The front facade is symmetrically arranged and provided with a hard stone front step with like bollards in the form of truncated obelisks. The bollards are provided with iron chain links. The gable has centrally the main entrance which is framed by wooden pilasters with a hard stone base. The pilasters meet at the top at a cornice which is supported by Empire consoles. The entrance contains a hard stone threshold and like reveals and is provided with a later realised panelled door with moulded panel and fanlight. The fanlight is filled with leaded glass containing within it a representation of a horse's head. On either side of the entrance two windows each.

Within the second storey five, lower, windows. Furthermore there is on the right side of the entrance a low basement light. The right side gable contains within the first storey at the far right a narrow window with a single-pane window and a like fanlight as well as a hard stone sill. On the upper floor on the right there are two windows with modern replacements. In front of the facade stands a number of hard stone posts with rounded top. The left side gable has in the first storey at the far left and right a narrow window with a rebated frame and below the window a roller shutter. On the upper floor there are two windows with a six-pane sash window. Behind the house a barn (possibly c. 1850) with a gabled roof and red old-Dutch tiles.

Valuation.

The object is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as a fine example of a mid-19th-century prominent village dwelling in its present form, notable for the broad cornice-topped facade and the relatively well-preserved detailing. The building represents a house type characteristic of this region, characterised by the broad, symmetrical front facade and the transverse-oriented gabled roof. It has architectural-historical value because of the aesthetic qualities of the well-preserved design and the detailing as well as the particular use of materials. The probable 18th-century origin of the core of the building underscores this value even further. The object has ensemble value because of its situation, forming a characteristic component of the historical built fabric on the Hoogstraat in Standdaarbuiten and because of the visually prominent location with a front step. The barn on the rear is also of importance in this respect. The object has integrity and recognisability value, as it is of importance because of the quality of the component parts, consisting of a mansion with richly articulated entrance section, front step with bollards and chain links and barn with gabled roof.
