Inleiding
Zogenaamde HOF VAN OLIJVEN, XXa, verhoogd gesitueerd in de zuidberm van de Kollenberg, op de helling tussen de Felix Ruttenlaan en de zeventiende eeuwse St.Rosakapel aan de Kapellerweg.
Omschrijving
Bouwkundige voorstelling van de Hof van Olijven, in de vorm van een grot in imitatie-rustica, opgetrokken in grove onregelmatig gevormde baksteen en kunststeen, verstevigd door ijzeren gewelfprofielen en voorzien van een blinde bakstenen achterwand. In de grot twee beelden, voorstellende de knielende Jezus voor een engel met beker. Deze beelden dateren uit 1968 en werden vervaardigd door G. Kastelijn te Sittard. De grotopening is afgesloten middels een smeedijzeren hekwerk. Vóór de grot een grotendeels door lage, ronde bakstenen muren omgeven hofje, bedekt met witte kiezel en voorzien van zitbanken. De bakstenen muren hebben ezelsruggen en steunberen. Op deze muren zijn smeedijzeren hekwerken geplaatst. Het hofje is, vanwege de situering op een verhoging, bereikbaar via elf traptreden. Het geheel wordt omgeven door wilgen.
Waardering
De Hof van Olijven langs de Kollenberg is van grote cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele, geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door het materiaalgebruik. De Hof is vanwege de situering verbonden met de ontwikkeling cq. uitbreiding van de Sittard, is van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van de wijk Kollenberg en beschikt over een historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met het hellende landschap. De Hof van Olijven verkeert in een redelijk gave staat en is van belang in relatie tot de visuele gaafheid van de directe omgeving. Architectural representation of the Hof van Olijven, in the form of a grotto in imitation rustica, constructed in rough irregularly shaped brick and artificial stone, reinforced by iron vault profiles and provided with a blind brick rear wall. In the grotto two sculptures, depicting the kneeling Jesus before an angel with a cup. These sculptures date from 1968 and were made by G. Kastelijn in Sittard. The grotto opening is closed by means of a wrought-iron grille. Before the grotto a courtyard largely surrounded by low, round brick walls, covered with white gravel and furnished with benches. The brick walls have saddle-backs and buttresses. On these walls wrought-iron grilles are placed. The courtyard is, due to its location on an elevation, accessible via eleven steps. The whole is surrounded by willows.
