Inleiding
ZEVEN VOETVALLEN, 1907-1925, in lineair verband in de noordberm van de Kollenberg, op de helling tussen de Felix Ruttenlaan en de St.Rosakapel aan de Kapellerweg. Vier voetvallen dateren uit 1907, drie uit 1925. Zij werden geplaatst ter vervanging van de uit 1800 daterende voetvallen. De drie voetvallen uit 1925 werden gerealiseerd in het kader van het 250-jarige bestaan van de St.Rosakapel.
Omschrijving
De zeven voetvallen zijn gebouwd in de vorm van wegkapelletjes. Getrapte betonnen basementen, waarop een optrek van rode verblendsteen, gemetseld in kruisverband. Enkele voetvallen hebben een hardstenen plint. Groen en rood geglazuurde profiellijsten op de gevelhoeken en in de nislijsten. De onderbouwen, voorzien van gevelstenen met opschrift, worden van de bovenbouwen gescheiden door een hardstenen cq. betonnen waterlijst. De enigszins terugliggende bovenbouwen, voorzien van geboogde nislijsten met een hardstenen dorpel, lopen uit in een uitkragende tuitgevel met hardstenen cq. betonnen afdekking en een nokkruis. In de nissen stucreliëfs achter traliewerk. De achtergevels zijn geheel gepleisterd. De gevelstenen zijn achtereenvolgens voorzien van de volgende opschriften: "I Voetval. Jezus in den Hof van Gethsemanie. Vereerders van de H.Rosa. Jubeljaar 1925"; "II Voetval. Jezus voor Caiphas. Uit dankbaarheid F.S.E. 1 6 25"; "III Voetval. Jezus voor Pilatus"; "IV Voetval. Jezus wordt wreedelijk gegeeseld"; "Ve Voetval. Jezus beklimt den Calvarieberg. Geschonken door H. Dieteren-Rutten Bergerweg Sittard. 1907"; "VI Voetval. Christus sterft aan het kruis. Vereerder v d H.Rosa"; "VII Voetval. Jezus wordt in het Graf gelegd. Vereerders van de H.Rosa. Jubeljaar 1925".
Waardering
De voetvallen langs de Kollenberg zijn van grote cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele, geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de esthetiek, het materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. De voetvallen zijn vanwege hun situering verbonden met de ontwikkeling cq. uitbreiding van Sittard, zijn van bijzondere betekenis voor het aanzien van de wijk Kollenberg en beschikken over een historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met het ter plaatse hellende landschap. SEVEN WAYSIDE CHAPELS, 1907-1925, in linear arrangement in the north verge of the Kollenberg, on the slope between the Felix Ruttenlaan and the St.Rosakapel on the Kapellerweg. Four wayside chapels date from 1907, three from 1925. They were placed to replace the wayside chapels dating from 1800. The three wayside chapels from 1925 were realized in the framework of the 250th anniversary of the St.Rosakapel.
Description
The seven wayside chapels are built in the form of small roadside chapels. Stepped concrete bases, on which a structure of red facing brick, laid in cross bond. Some wayside chapels have a sandstone plinth. Green and red glazed mouldings on the gable corners and in the niche mouldings. The lower structures, provided with stones inscribed on the facade, are separated from the upper structures by a sandstone or concrete drip moulding. The somewhat recessed upper structures, provided with arched niche mouldings with a sandstone sill, terminate in a projecting spout gable with sandstone or concrete coping and a roof cross. Stucco reliefs behind lattice work in the niches. The rear facades are entirely plastered. The stones inscribed on the facade are successively provided with the following inscriptions: "I Wayside Chapel. Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Devoted to H.Rosa. Jubilee Year 1925"; "II Wayside Chapel. Jesus before Caiaphas. In gratitude F.S.E. 1 6 25"; "III Wayside Chapel. Jesus before Pilate"; "IV Wayside Chapel. Jesus is cruelly scourged"; "Ve Wayside Chapel. Jesus climbs Mount Calvary. Donated by H. Dieteren-Rutten Bergerweg Sittard. 1907"; "VI Wayside Chapel. Christ dies on the cross. Devoted to H.Rosa"; "VII Wayside Chapel. Jesus is laid in the Grave. Devoted to H.Rosa. Jubilee Year 1925".
Valuation
The wayside chapels along the Kollenberg are of great cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural, spiritual and typological development.
