Inleiding.
De Aloysiusbouw van het INTERNAAT Saint Louis werd in eerste aanleg gebouwd in 1850 en 1867 als een langgerekte Neo-Classicistische vleugel met begane grond met klassen en refter, mezzaninoverdieping met slaapzalen, een zolder met slaapzalen en een Neo-Barokke toren. Na 1905 is het gebouw inwendig gewijzigd waarbij de kroonlijst, kapitelen en mezzanino plaats maakten voor een tweede ramenreeks. Het gebouw is rond 1960 opnieuw inwendig verbouwd en is in 1999-2000 verbouwd tot appartementen. De vleugel sluit door middel van een trappenhuis op het voorgebouw aan en is na 1905 door middel van een uit drie bogen bestaande doorgang en onderdoorgang verbonden met de Neo-Barokke kapel.
Omschrijving.
Langgerekt, deels onderkelderd, tweelaags internaatsgebouw, opgetrokken uit handvorm baksteen met gepleisterde voorgevel van 29 traveeën. Zadeldak met pannen, onderbroken door de neo-barokke Aloysiustoren. De langgerekte gevel aan de zijde van de cour is geheel gepleisterd en gewit. Aansluitend aan het voorgebouw (onderdeel I) treffen we een gedeelte van vijf vakken en een gedeelte van vier vakken met een aansluitende ingangstravee. Deze delen worden door lisenen van elkaar gescheiden en hebben op begane grond en verdieping respectievelijk acht- en zesruits ramen, getoogd met stucomlijsting en kuif. De raamindeling is vernieuwd. Geprofileerde gootlijst. De voormalige ingangstravee heeft een rondboogingang met gedeeld bovenlicht.
Hierop sluit een gedeelte aan van 20 vakken, waarvan de zevende travee wordt bekroond door de toren. Deze gevel bezit uit de situatie van voor 1905 nog de plint, cordonlijst, basementen en pilasters en wordt afgesloten door een gootlijst. De ramen zijn identiek aan de ramen in de overige geveldelen, en eveneens vernieuwd. De korte zijgevel bij de kapel heeft een topgevel met vlechtingen, op de eerste etage enkele zesruits ramen. Een breed negendelig raam op zolder is gedicht. Bij deze gevel sluit het gebouw via een ca. 1960 in de oude vorm vernieuwde bakstenen gang met onderdoorgang en galerij met drie boogstellingen aan op de kapel. De lange achtergevel heeft schoon metselwerk en acht- en zesruits ramen. De oudste fase is hier een gedeelte van 13 vakken links en rechts van de toren, met aansluitend een noordelijk deel van 11 vakken en een zuidelijk deel van 7 vakken. De Aloysiustoren bevatte het trappenhuis, draagt boven de ingang de tekst 'Exemplum dedi vobis' en bestaat uit een dwarsgeplaatste onderbouw ter breedte van een travee die het zadeldak doorsnijdt en aan de courzijde composiete hoekpilasters heeft. Een breed rondboograam met roedenverdeling en een waaiervormige verdeling in het halfronde bovenlicht doorbreekt de gevel. De achterzijde van deze onderbouw is ongeleed en heeft eveneens een hoog rondboograam. Het geheel wordt afgesloten met een kroonlijst en balustrade, waarop in het midden een vierkante toren met hoekpilasters met corintische kapitelen en een kroonlijst. Deze wordt afgesloten door een vierzijdig koepeldak met oeil-de-boeufs waarop een vier- en achtkante opbouw, die het standbeeld van Aloysius draagt. In de zijden van de toren T-ramen met omlijsting en afwisselend halfronde en driezijdige frontons. Inwendig zijn de houten balklagen, waarvan die op de verdieping door middel van een middenstijl verbonden waren met de zolderbalklaag, en de kapconstructie met standvinken bij de verbouwing vervangen door betonconstructies en een nieuwe bekapping. De ruimtelijke indeling herinnert sinds de wijzigingen van 1960 en 1999-2000 niet meer aan de oorspronkelijke situatie met slaapzelen en chambrettes.
Waardering.
Het gebouw is van algemeen belang. The Aloysius Building of the BOARDING SCHOOL Saint Louis was initially built in 1850 and 1867 as an elongated Neo-Classical wing with a ground floor containing classrooms and refectory, a mezzanine storey with dormitories, an attic with dormitories and a Neo-Baroque tower. After 1905 the building was internally altered whereby the cornice, capitals and mezzanine gave way to a second set of windows. The building was internally rebuilt around 1960 and was converted into apartments in 1999-2000. The wing connects to the front building by means of a staircase, and after 1905 was connected to the Neo-Baroque chapel by means of a passage consisting of three arches and an undercroft.

Elongated, partly undercrofted, two-storey boarding school building, constructed of handmade brick with rendered front facade of 29 bays. Gabled roof with tiles, interrupted by the neo-baroque Aloysius tower. The elongated facade on the side of the cour is entirely rendered and whitewashed. Adjacent to the front building (component I) we find a section of five bays and a section of four bays with an adjoining entrance bay. These sections are separated from each other by pilaster strips and have on the ground floor and first storey respectively eight-pane and six-pane windows, with stuco moulding and hood. The window arrangement has been renewed. Moulded gutter moulding. The former entrance bay has a round-arch entrance with a divided fanlight.
Adjacent to this is a section of 20 bays, of which the seventh bay is crowned by the tower. This facade still retains from the pre-1905 situation the plinth, cordon moulding, bases and pilasters and is finished with a gutter moulding. The windows are identical to the windows in the other facade sections, and likewise renewed. The short side facade at the chapel has a gable with wattle, on the first floor a few six-pane windows. A wide nine-part window on the attic is blocked up. At this facade the building connects via a brick passage with undercroft and gallery with three arch structures, renewed around 1960 in the old form, to the chapel. The long rear facade has fair-faced brickwork and eight-pane and six-pane windows. The oldest phase here is a section of 13 bays on either side of the tower, with an adjoining northern section of 11 bays and a southern section of 7 bays. The Aloysius tower contained the staircase, bears above the entrance the text 'Exemplum dedi vobis' and consists of a transversely placed base structure the width of a bay that intersects the gabled roof and has composite corner pilasters on the cour side. A wide round-arch window with glazing bars and a fan-shaped division in the semicircular fanlight pierces the facade. The rear side of this base structure is unartaculated and likewise has a high round-arch window. The whole is finished with a cornice and balustrade, on which in the middle is a square tower with corner pilasters with Corinthian capitals and a cornice. This is finished by a four-sided cupola roof with oeil-de-boeufs on which a four- and eight-sided structure supporting the statue of Aloysius. In the sides of the tower T-shaped windows with moulding and alternating semicircular and three-sided pediments. Internally the wooden floor joists, of which those on the first storey were connected to the attic floor joists by means of a central post, and the roof truss structure with struts were replaced during the alteration by concrete structures and new covering. Since the alterations of 1960 and 1999-2000 the spatial arrangement no longer recalls the original situation with dormitories and small rooms.
Valuation.
The building is of general importance. It has cultural-historical significance as a particular expression of a spiritual, typological and geographical development, namely the establishment of Catholic educational congregations and the growth of Oudenbosch into an educational centre of national importance, it is of significance for the typological development of boarding school buildings; it is of architectural-historical importance because of the style and ornamentation which is unusual for this country; it has ensemble value as part of a larger whole, the core of Oudenbosch, which is of national urban planning importance; it has been well preserved; it is rare because of the combination of the aforementioned characteristics.
