Omschrijving
Inleiding.
CALVARIEBERG, aan de achterzijde van de begraafplaats gelegen. De calvarieberg is in 1852 gemaakt door de Gebr. Goossens uit Den Bosch. Hij werd in 1873 verplaatst naar de huidige plek.
Omschrijving.
Ronde heuvel, begroeid met gras. Op de top een kruisgroep bestaande uit een beeld van Jezus aan het kruis met aan de voet daarvan een knielende Maria Magdalena, links een wenende Maria, rechts is Johannes verbeeld. De beeldengroep is uitgevoerd in kunststeen. In de heuvel is aan de voorzijde een grote halfronde nis met geprofileerde lijst gemaakt. Hierin is een beeldengroep van geglazuurde terracotta geplaatst die mensen in het vagevuur voorstelt. Boven in is een engeltje geplaatst. De nis wordt afgesloten door een smeedijzeren hekwerk.
Voor de nis is een rechthoekig betegeld veld aangelegd, eromheen staat een laag neogotisch siersmeedijzeren hek. Op de voorgrond staan links en rechts van de nis beelden van de wachters van het Heilig Graf. Links een soldaat met schild, daarop het opschrift: "HET IS EENE HEILIGE EN ZALIGE GEDACHTE VOOR DE OVERLEDENEN TE BIDDEN II MACHAB.". Rechts daarvan staat een mansfiguur. Beide figuren waren aanvankelijk op de berg geplaatst. Ook was er boven de nis op de halfronde lijst een tekst aangebracht: "ONTFERMT U MIJNER, ONTFERMT U MIJNE, TENMINSTE GIJ MIJNE VRIENDEN". Deze tekst is niet meer aanwezig.
Waardering.
De calvarieberg is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de manifestatie van de katholieke graf- en devotiecultuur. Het geheel heeft architectuurhistorische en kunsthistorische waarde wegens materiaalgebruik, ornamentiek en vormgeving. De calvarieberg is van belang wegens ensemblewaarde, het is een essentieel onderdeel van het geheel. De calvarieberg is van belang vanwege de zeldzaamheid, dit geldt vooral voor de terracotta beeldengroep in de nis (vagevuur).

On the summit a crucifixion group consisting of an image of Jesus on the cross with at its foot a kneeling Mary Magdalene, on the left a weeping Mary, on the right John is depicted. The figure group is executed in artificial stone. In the mound on the front side a large semicircular niche with moulded frame has been made. In this a figure group of glazed terracotta is placed depicting people in purgatory. At the top a small angel is placed. The niche is closed off by wrought iron railings.
In front of the niche a rectangular tiled field has been laid out, around it stands a low neo-Gothic ornamental wrought iron fence. In the foreground to the left and right of the niche are images of the guardians of the Holy Sepulchre. On the left a soldier with shield, bearing the inscription: "IT IS A HOLY AND BLESSED THOUGHT TO PRAY FOR THE DEAD II MACCABEES.". To the right of this stands a male figure. Both figures were originally placed on the hill. Also above the niche on the semicircular moulding a text was inscribed: "HAVE MERCY UPON ME, HAVE MERCY UPON ME, AT LEAST YOU MY FRIENDS". This text is no longer present.
