Inleiding.
Rooms Katholieke LAGERE SCHOOL (Pastoor van Haarenstraat 36) met ONDERWIJZERSWONING (Pastoor van Haarenstraat 34). Gebouwd in opdracht van pastoor van Haaren, in 1910 in een Ambachtelijk-Traditionele bouwtrant. De school is in gebruik als gemeenschapshuis. De woning wordt als zelfstandige woonruimte gebruikt.
Omschrijving.
Samengestelde bakstenen bouwmassa waarbij school en woning duidelijk van elkaar te onderscheiden zijn. Het dak is gedekt met tuiles-du-Nord en heeft gootlijsten en windveren. Het gebouw heeft een iets uitstekende bakstenen plint. Direkt onder de goot is een tandlijst, uitgevoerd in gele steen aangebracht. De school bestaat uit een éénlaags gebouw op een L-vormige plattegrond. Het pand heeft een hoge verdiepingshoogte onder zadeldak. Het woongedeelte bevindt zich aan de zuidkant van de school en springt iets naar voren. Het huis heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond onder haaks op elkaar staande daken. De voorgevel van de school heeft zes hoge ramen met kruiskozijnen. Deze ramen zijn in twee groepen van drie geplaatst, overeenkomstig de oorspronkelijke klasindeling. Erboven, ongeveer in het midden van de gevel, is in een gepleisterd veld de huidige naam van het gebouw gezet.
In de rechterzijgevel ligt, iets terugwijkend onder een lessenaarsdak, de ingang. In het bovenlicht van de deur is gekleurd glas-in-lood gezet. De topgevel heeft twee ramen. De achtergevel heeft een haakse aanbouw onder zadeldak, deze aanbouw is later verlengd. De voorgevel van het woonhuis telt vijf traveeën. Het risaliet, rechts is twee traveeën breed, twee lagen hoog met topgevel onder een haaks zadeldak. Links is de bouwmassa één laag hoog onder een hoog dak met wolfeind. De staande ramen op de begane grond hebben allen een smalle middenstijl en een bovenlicht. Op de eerste verdieping is een gelijkvormig raam aangebracht, in de topgevel een klein liggend raam. De paneeldeur heeft smeedijzeren roosters, ervoor ligt een bakstenen trapje. In het dakvlak van het wolfdak is een dakkapel gemaakt.
De linkerzijgevel heeft een kelderlicht, een smal raam op de begane grond en een raam in de top. Een kleine aanbouw telt één bouwlaag onder een plat dak. Het interieur van de school is gemoderniseerd, aan de straatkant ligt een grote recreatiezaal, hierin is een oude kastenwand gehandhaafd.
Waardering.
De school is van algemeen belang en heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische, geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van nieuwe kerkdorpen in het kader van de ontginning van oostelijk Noord-Brabant. Description.
Composite brick building mass in which the school and house are clearly distinguishable from each other. The roof is covered with tuiles-du-Nord and has gutter mouldings and wind verges. The building has a slightly projecting brick plinth. Directly under the gutter is a tooth moulding, executed in yellow stone. The school consists of a single-storey building on an L-shaped ground plan. The building has a high storey height under a gabled roof. The residential part is located on the south side of the school and projects slightly forward. The house has a rectangular ground plan under perpendicular roofs. The front facade of the school has six tall windows with cross windows. These windows are arranged in two groups of three, corresponding to the original classroom arrangement. Above, approximately in the middle of the facade, the current name of the building is set in a rendered field.
In the right side facade, slightly recessed under a lean-to roof, is the entrance. In the fanlight of the door, coloured leaded glass is set. The gable has two windows. The rear facade has a perpendicular extension under a gabled roof; this extension was later extended. The front facade of the residential house has five bays. The risalit, on the right, is two bays wide, two storeys high with gable under a perpendicular gabled roof. On the left the building mass is one storey high under a high roof with half-hipped end. The standing windows on the ground floor all have a narrow central mullion and a fanlight. On the first floor a similar window is installed; in the gable a small horizontal window. The panelled door has wrought-iron grilles; in front of it lies a brick step.
In the roof plane of the half-hipped roof a roof dormer has been made.
The left side facade has a basement light, a narrow window on the ground floor and a window in the gable. A small extension has one storey under a flat roof. The interior of the school has been modernised; on the street side there is a large recreation hall, in which an old fitted cupboard wall has been retained.
Evaluation.
The school is of general interest and has cultural-historical importance as an expression of a social-economic, spiritual and typological development, namely the establishment of new church villages in the context of the reclamation of eastern North Brabant. It has architectural-historical value because of its style and detailing. It has ensemble value because of the special significance of its situation, linked to the development of the village and as an essential part of the whole.
