Inleiding
Voormalige VILLA "Desiré" uit 1897 in Eclectische stijl gebouwd naar ontwerp van architect W.F.J.H. Bouman. De villa, nu in gebruik als kantoor, is gebouwd voor de Tilburgse lakenfabrikant Guillaume Joseph Desiré Pollet. De villa, die ligt tussen belendende bebouwing, maakt deel uit van de bebouwing van de Spoorlaan. Aan de achterkant is de villa in de zeventiger jaren vergroot. Deze uitbreiding behoort niet tot de bescherming. Het oostelijk gelegen buurhuis genaamd "Villa Joseph" op Spoorlaan 436 is tegelijkertijd, in dezelfde stijl en door dezelfde opdrachtgever en architect gebouwd.
Omschrijving
De villa heeft twee bouwlagen met een zolderverdieping, die gedekt wordt door een rondom lopend mansardedak. Het dak is voorzien van leien. De villa, aan de voorkant gelegen op een terras, heeft een L-vormige plattegrond met afsnuiting. De voorgevelrooilijn maakt in de plattegrond verschillende sprongen.
De ingangspartij, die zich uitstrekt over twee bouwlagen, bevindt zich in de elleboog van de plattegrond. In een loggia met bordes met erboven een balkon ligt de dubbele voordeur met rondboogvormig bovenlicht. Zowel de deuren als het bovenlicht zijn voorzien van roosters van siersmeedwerk. Het hardstenen bordes en balkon hebben respectievelijk een rondboog- en balusterbalustrade. Het balkon rust op voluutvormige consoles, de vrije hoek wordt ondersteund door een hardstenen zuil voorzien van basement en kapiteel. Het balkon is bereikbaar via dubbele balkondeuren. De symmetrische risaliet van de voorgevel is twee traveeën breed. Op de begane grond bevat elke travee dubbele naar binnen draaiende tuindeuren met een bovenlicht en op de verdieping een T-vormig schuifvenster. De traveeën worden gescheiden door een smalle penant. Hierboven in het dak een stenen kapel met twee vensters met oren, kroonlijst en voluutbekroning. In de overige traveeën bevinden zich zowel op de begane grond als op de verdieping schuifvensters. Naast de twee smalle vensters van het trappenhuis bevat de zijgevel enige blindvensters. Alle muuropeningen in de voorgevel worden gesloten door een rondboog. In de achtergevel bevinden zich naast enige getoogde schuifvensters op de zolderverdieping dubbele van glas voorziene hijsdeuren. Het opgaande werk bestaat uit gepleisterde baksteen. Het stucwerk van de rondbogen boven de muuropeningen wordt geaccentueerd door snijwerk. De risaliet is voorzien van hoekpilasters. De bogen op de pilasters naast de balkondeuren worden gedragen door gesneden kapitelen. De gevels hebben een cordonlijst. Aan de bovenkant worden ze afgesloten door een kroonlijst met fries.
Waardering
De villa is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de bouw van rijk gedetailleerde fabrikantenwoningen binnen de bestaande stedelijke structuur en is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het woonhuis. Description
The villa has two storeys with an attic storey, covered by a mansard roof running around. The roof is tiled with slate. The villa, situated on a terrace at the front, has an L-shaped floor plan with cut-off corner. The front façade line makes various jumps in the floor plan.
The entrance section, which extends over two storeys, is located in the elbow of the floor plan. In a loggia with a flight of steps with a balcony above it lies the double front door with a semicircular arch fanlight. Both the doors and the fanlight are fitted with ornamental ironwork grilles. The hardstone steps and balcony have respectively a semicircular arch and baluster balustrade. The balcony rests on volute-shaped consoles; the free corner is supported by a hardstone column fitted with a plinth and capital. The balcony is accessible via double French doors. The symmetrical risalit of the front façade is two bays wide. On the ground floor each bay contains double inward-opening French doors with a fanlight and on the first floor a T-shaped sash window. The bays are separated by a narrow pier. Above this in the roof a stone chapel with two windows with ears, cornice and volute coping. In the remaining bays there are sash windows on both the ground floor and the first floor. In addition to the two narrow windows of the staircase the side façade contains some blind windows. All wall openings in the front façade are closed by a semicircular arch. In the rear façade there are, in addition to some arched sash windows on the attic storey, double glass-fitted hoisting doors. The masonry consists of plastered brick. The stucco work of the semicircular arches above the wall openings is emphasized by carved work. The risalit is fitted with corner pilasters. The arches on the pilasters beside the balcony doors are carried by carved capitals. The façades have a string course. At the top they are finished with a cornice with frieze.
Valuation
The villa is of general interest. The building has cultural-historical value as an example of a socio-economic development, namely the construction of richly detailed manufacturers' residences within the existing urban structure and is also of value as an example of the typological development of the dwelling house.
