Inleiding
Voormalig WARENHUIS met BOVENWONING in Art-Nouveau uit 1900 naar ontwerp van architect W.F.J.H. Bouman (Tilburg/Breda) gebouwd als kledingmagazijn 'Jong Holland'.
Het object staat op de hoek van de Oude Markt en Heuvelstraat in het centrum van de stad. Het huis bevat nu een winkel met bovenwoning.
Omschrijving
Het warenhuis met bovenwoning heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond met op de hoek van Oude Markt en Heuvelstraat een afsnuiting. Het object heeft vier bouwlagen onder een plat dak. De bovenste bouwlaag bevat op de hoek een achtzijdige torenkamer met aan de Marktkant en gedeeltelijk aan de Heuvelstraatkant dakschilden. De kamer wordt gedekt door een achtzijdig torendak. De daken zijn voorzien van leien. De pui van de winkel strekte zich uit over de onderste twee bouwlagen. Een glazen luifel, die om de hoek doorloopt, deelt de pui in tweeën. De oorspronkelijk geheel van glas gemaakte pui bevat aan de kant van de Heuvelstraat twee traveeën en aan de kant van de Oude Markt één travee. De ingangspartij van de winkel ligt op de hoek. Hierboven op de tweede bouwlaag bevindt zich een schuifvenster onder een ellipsboog met in het bovenlicht een roedenverdeling. Op de derde bouwlaag bevindt zich een hardstenen balkon liggend op voluutvormige consoles. De balustrade, eveneens van hardsteen, heeft hoekpilasters. Het balkon is bereikbaar via twee balkondeuren. Het rechtgesloten kozijn met kalf en bovenlicht, is geplaatst in een ellipsboogvormige muuropening. De boogtrommel bevat siermetselwerk rustend op een stenen latei. De achtkantige torenkamer op de vierde bouwlaag heeft in drie gevels een rechtgesloten venster met een stenen kalf en latei. De bovenlichten hebben een roedenverdeling. De gevel van de toren worden aan de bovenkant afgesloten door een kroonlijst met fries en gesneden gootklossen. Beide flankerende traveeën naast de ingang komen grotendeels overeen. Op de eerste bouwlaag bestaat de travee, aan de kant van de Heuvelstraat uit één groot winkelraam en aan de kant van de Oude Markt uit een dergelijk raam met ernaast de ingang van de bovenwoning. De voordeur is voorzien van snijwerk en smeedijzeren doorzichtroosters. Op de tweede en derde bouwlaag bevinden zich twee rechtgesloten T-vormige schuifvensters met in de bovenlichten een roedenverdeling. De vensters van de pui bevinden zich onder één accolade-achtige ellipsboog. De vensters van de derde bouwlaag zijn geplaatst in ellipsboogvormige muuropeningen. De boogtrommels bevatten siermetselwerk rustend op stenen lateien. Beide traveeën worden aan de bovenkant afgesloten door een kroonlijst met fries en gesneden gootklossen.
Het winkelraam, van de tweede travee in de Heuvelstraat, komt overeen met het naastliggende raam. Op de tweede en derde bouwlaag bevindt zich een rechtgesloten venster met drie schuiframen en roedenverdeling in de bovenlichten.
