Inleiding
Het WINKEL-WOONHUIS is 1909 gebouwd in de stijl van de Jugendstil naar ontwerp van architect F.C. de Beer. De onderpui en het winkelinterieur zijn uitgebroken en veranderd rond 1980. Het pand maakt deel uit van een aaneengesloten gevelwand in de binnenstad.
Omschrijving
Het vierlaagse smalle pand heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond. Het dak is plat afgedekt met uitzondering van een paraboolvormig dak aan de voorzijde dat met rode keramische schubtegels gedekt. De gevel is opgetrokken uit bruine machinale baksteen met accenten in witte baksteen en hardsteen. De winkelpui is uitgebroken en geheel vernieuwd op de smalle hoeklisenen na. Hierop langgerekte schoren waarop zich brede bakstenen lisenen aan weerskanten van het opengewerkte middendeel bevinden.
Op de eerste etage bevindt zich een driehoekige erker met een witte bakstenen borstwering en twee schuifvensters. Deze hebben, evenals de overige ramen, een glas-in-lood bovenlicht. De onderrand van de borstwering en alle vensterdorpels zijn van hardsteen. Op het dak van de erker een balkon met een hek van siersmeedwerk. In het midden deuren, aan weerszijden schuifvensters met lateien rustend op hardstenen consoles. Rank gebogen ijzeren trekstangen verbinden het balkon aan de onderzijde van het driehoekige balkon daar boven. Dit balkon is eveneens voorzien van smeedwerk met spiraalkrullen en gebogen trekstangen, die doorlopen tot het overkragende parabooldak. Deur en schuifvensters op dit balkon eveneens voorzien van decoratieve lateien met consoles en aanzetstenen van hardsteen. Aan weerskanten van de vensters een witte bakstenen opbouw met forse hardstenen bekroningen.
Waardering
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als getuigenis van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, door de bouw van hoge winkelhuizen aan de oude straten van het stadscentrum en is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het winkel-woonhuis. Architectuurhistorisch is het van belang vanwege de wijze waarop de ornamentiek en het materiaalgebruik in een regionale variant van de Art Nouveau in dienst worden gesteld van de detailhandel; het is tevens van belang in het oeuvre van de architect. The four-storey narrow building has a rectangular floor plan. The roof is flat-topped with the exception of a parabolic roof at the front that is covered with red ceramic shingled tiles. The facade is built of brown mechanically-made brick with accents in white brick and hard stone. The shop front has been broken through and completely renewed except for the narrow corner mouldings. Upon these are long struts on which wide brick mouldings are positioned on either side of the openwork central section.
On the first floor there is a triangular bay window with a white brick balustrade and two sash windows. These have, like the other windows, a stained glass fanlight. The lower edge of the balustrade and all window sills are of hard stone. On the roof of the bay window a balcony with a decorative wrought iron railing. In the middle doors, on either side sash windows with lintels resting on hard stone consoles. Slender curved iron tie-rods connect the balcony to the underside of the triangular balcony above. This balcony is also provided with wrought work with spiral scrolls and curved tie-rods, which continue to the overhanging parabolic roof. Door and sash windows on this balcony likewise provided with decorative lintels with consoles and hard stone setting stones. On either side of the windows a white brick construction with substantial hard stone cresting.

The building is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as evidence of socio-economic development, through the construction of tall shop houses on the old streets of the city centre and is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the shop-dwelling house.
