Inleiding
Voormalig BRANDSPUITHUIS uit ca. 1910 op rechthoekig perceel met de smalle zijde aan de straat. Nu in gebruik als transformatorhuisje bij de energiebedrijven. Het huis is gebouwd over een zuidelijk gelegen waterloopje van de Veldhoven. De voor- of oostgevel staat op de perceelsgrens. Het huis ligt half vrijstaand in de wijk Veldhoven aan de lintbebouwde Gasthuisring. Rond 1900 stond verspreid door Tilburg een tiental van dergelijke brandspuithuizen. Hierin stond materiaal bestemd ter bestrijding van brand en dergelijke. Ook bevond zich hierin een mobiele brandspuit, die in geval van brand snel ter plekke kon komen. De spuit werd bediend door de vrijwillige brandweer.
Omschrijving
Eenlaags brandspuithuis op rechthoekige plattegrond onder zadeldak met de nok loodrecht op de straat. Het dak is gedekt met Oudhollandse pannen. De tuitgevel aan de straat bevat een getoogde dubbele houten toegangspoort met erboven in de geveltop een oeuil du boeuf. Zowel in de poort als in de oeuil du boeuf bevinden zich gietijzeren ventilatieroosters. Het opgaande werk van de voorgevel bestaat uit rode machinaal gevormde baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband met hardstenen aanzetstenen voor de segmentboog boven de poort en gevelbekroning.
De zij- en achtergevels zijn blind uitgevoerd. Zij bestaan uit handgevormde gele baksteen in IJsselformaat en eveneens gemetseld in kruisverband.
Waardering
Het voormalige brandspuithuis heeft algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van de stad en is van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de brandweergebouwen. Introduction
Former FIRE ENGINE HOUSE from around 1910 on a rectangular plot with the narrow side facing the street. Now in use as a transformer house with the energy companies. The house was built over a watercourse of the Veldhoven located to the south. The front or east facade stands on the plot boundary. The house is half detached in the Veldhoven district on the linear development of the Gasthuisring. Around 1900 some ten such fire engine houses were scattered throughout Tilburg. In these was stored material intended for fire-fighting and the like. There was also a mobile fire engine housed within, which could quickly reach the scene in case of fire. Description
Single-storey fire engine house on rectangular plan under a gabled roof with the ridge perpendicular to the street. The roof is covered with old Dutch tiles.
