The register's description

Inleiding.

Beide vleugels verschillen onderling in detaillering.

Introduction.

The WORKSHOPS were built in 1882 in a sober style which matches that of the monastery. In this among other things a brewery was housed, so that the active life of the brothers was separated from the contemplative. The building, which has been internally rebuilt, is storage space, carpentry workshop and bicycle shed. The extension from 1967 falls outside the protection.

Description.

The single-storey building has an L-shaped plan. The façades are for the most part built of red Belgian brick with straight wall anchors and on the gabled roofs lie black improved Dutch roof tiles. The plinth is plastered. Both wings differ from each other in detailing. The eastern wing has eight bays. From left to right there are two doors and then always a window and a door.

The windows are arched hinged windows with drop lights and hard stone sills. The arched arches, also above the small glazing bar windows of the clamp doors, are mortared with sand-stone-yellow brick as setting and closing stone. Below the wooden gutter line is a dentil moulding mortared. The right side façade has a hoist opening under the ridge; below this is a bevelled single-storey extension from the building period under a flat roof with a door. The other wing has from left to right five windows and later broken through wide double doors. The first three bays are built of yellow brick, without visible wall anchors. The arches above the windows are here monochrome. In the straight-closed garage-like doors are small windows with small glazing bars. In the left side façade a hoist opening is placed in the ridge. Below this in 1967 a single-storey new building under a flat roof was placed.

The rear façades are hidden from view by the location on the corner of the monastery grounds.

Valuation.

The workshops are of general importance. The whole has cultural-historical value as an example of a spiritual development, namely the flourishing of orders and congregations in the nineteenth century and is furthermore of importance as an example of the late-nineteenth-century recreation of the ancient Capuchin monastery type. It is of architectural-historical importance because of the style and the simple use of materials, applied within the extremely simple, traditional form canon of the Capuchin order. It has ensemble values because of the coherence of monastery and ancillary buildings. It is furthermore of importance in connection with the intactness of the urban environment.
