Het HERENHUIS werd rond 1890 gebouwd in Eclectische stijl naar ontwerp van de Tilburgse architect A.J. Blomjous.
Omschrijving
Het half vrijstaande hoekpand heeft een souterrain en telt vijf traveeën. Het gebouw met rechthoekige plattegrond heeft een geknikt schilddak waarop kunstleien. De gevels zijn wit gepleisterd. Het basement, de hoekblokken en de cordonlijsten zijn uitgevoerd in hardsteen. Aan weerskanten van de vooruitspringende middenpartij met ingang twee getoogde kelderramen met smeedijzeren roosters en diamantkop als sluitsteen. De schuifvensters op de beletage hebben een stucomlijsting met oreillons, een diamantkop als sluitsteen en een triglief onder de cordonlijst. De vleugeldeuren zijn voorzien van smalle ramen met roosters en tympaan. Links en rechts van de hardstenen stoep getoogde openingen voor schoenschrapers. In het halfronde bovenlicht is in een ovalen glas een geëtste voorstelling aangebracht van een vrouwenfiguur met kransen en toortsen. In de zwikken van het bovenlicht is sierstucwerk geplaatst. De risaliet is over beide etages voorzien van diamantkoppen, aan weerskanten hiervan net als op de hoeken verspringende hardstenen blokken.
Boven de deur bevindt zich een hardstenen segmentboogvormig balkon op met leeuwenkoppen voorziene voluutconsoles. Het ijzeren hekwerk hiervan is vernieuwd en vereenvoudigd. De stolpvensters hebben behalve een stucomlijsting een lekdorpel op consoles, de openslaande balkondeuren in de vorm van een driehoekig tympaan. De gootlijst rust op dubbele consoles met gootklossen, een tandlijst en festoenen in het fries. De middelste dakkapel bezit een schuifraam met halfrond bovenlicht. De gepleisterde omlijsting is klokvormig, hiervoor is een gebroken segmentvormig tympaan gezet, waardoor beide delen bijdragen aan de afsluiting van de risaliet. Aan weerskanten van de middelste dakkapel twee vereenvoudigde rechthoekige dakkapellen onder plat dak.
De linkerzijgevel is voor zover zichtbaar blind. De rechterzijgevel heeft geheel links een smal schuifvenster. Rechts bevindt zich een paneeldeur, daar boven een rondboograam en hier boven tenslotte een groot rondraam, beide met stucwerk profielomlijsting.
De achtergevel bezit links een hoge eenlaagse aanbouw met een breed meerdelig venster, een paneeldeur en plat dak waarop een balkon. Rechts een veranda met houten balustrade en lessenaarsdak. Op de etage bevinden zich vier achtruits schuifvensters.
Waardering
Het herenhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van fabrikantenvilla's aan de oude hoofdstructuur van de stad en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van de fabrikantenvilla. Het is van architectuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de toepassing van Eclectische stijlvormen voor de representatie van de nieuwe rijken, vanwege de harmonische gevelcompositie en als voorbeeld van het oeuvre van de architect. The semi-detached corner property has a basement and comprises five bays. The building with rectangular floor plan has a broken hipped roof with artificial slate. The facades are rendered in white. The basement, the corner blocks and the horizontal bands are executed in sandstone. On either side of the projecting central section with entrance two arched basement windows with wrought-iron grilles and diamond-point voussoirs. The sash windows on the bel-stage have stucco moulding with ears, a diamond-point voussoir and a triglyph below the horizontal band. The double doors are provided with narrow windows with grilles and tympanum. Left and right of the sandstone step arched openings for shoe scrapers. In the semicircular fanlight an etched representation is included in an oval pane of a female figure with wreaths and torches. In the soffits of the fanlight decorative stuccowork is placed. The risalit is provided over both storeys with diamond-points, on either side of which as also on the corners are stepped sandstone blocks.
Above the door there is a sandstone segmental-arch shaped balcony on volute brackets provided with lion heads. The iron railing thereof is renewed and simplified. The roof windows have besides stucco moulding a drip moulding on brackets, the opening balcony doors in the form of a triangular tympanum. The cornice rests on double brackets with gutter blocks, a dentil band and festoons in the frieze. The central roof dormer has a sash window with semicircular fanlight. The rendered moulding is bell-shaped, in front of which a broken segmental-arch shaped tympanum is placed, whereby both parts contribute to the closure of the risalit. On either side of the central roof dormer two simplified rectangular roof dormers under flat roof.
The left side gable is blind as far as visible. The right side gable has a narrow sash window on the far left. On the right there is a panel door, above it a segmental-arch window and above this finally a large circular window, both with stucco profile moulding.
The rear gable has on the left a tall single-storey extension with a wide multi-part window, a panel door and flat roof with a balcony on it. On the right a veranda with wooden balustrade and lean-to roof. On the storey there are four rear sash windows.
Valuation
The mansion is of general importance. It has cultural-historical significance as an example of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of factory owners' villas on the old main structure of the city and as an example of the typological development of the factory owners' villa.
