Inleiding
LOODS voor de opslag van natte schietkatoen, behorende tot een complex van loods en hek, gebouwd in 1865-1870 binnen de vesting en marinehaven te Hellevoetsluis.
Omschrijving
De vrijstaande één bouwlaag tellende loods is gebouwd op een rechthoekige plattegrond en heeft steunberen op de hoeken en in het midden van de langsgevels. Het door schenkelspanten gedragen zadeldak is gedekt met gesmoorde kruispannen en voorzien van eenvoudig geprofileerde houten windveren en bakgoten.
De in kruisverband gemetselde rode bakstenen gevels zijn slechts geleed door de toepassing van hardstenen aanzet- en sluitstenen. Boven dubbele houten geprofileerde deuren en dubbele luiken met ijzeren beslagwerk zijn segmentbogen aangebracht. De luiken zijn voorzien van hardstenen onderdorpels. Achter de luiken bevinden zich openslaande kruisvensters. In de kopgevels bevinden zich keperboogvormige spaarvelden.
Binnen het keperboogvormige spaarveld van de symmetrische voorgevel (noordzijde) zijn boven elkaar een dubbele houten deur en een luik aangebracht.
De symmetrische achtergevel is voorzien van twee boven elkaar geplaatste kleine gevelopeningen met vensters en luiken.
De asymmetrische linker zijgevel is voorzien van twee gevelopeningen met daarin vensters en luiken.
De symmetrische rechter zijgevel heeft vier traveeën, ieder voorzien van gevelopeningen met vensters en luiken.
De loods kent inwendig een sobere indeling bestaande uit een rechthoekige ruimte met zolderlaag.
Waardering
De loods voor de opslag van natte schietkatoen is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische, de architectuurhistorische en de ensemblewaarde.
- De loods is van cultuurhistorisch belang vanwege de bijzondere functie en als onderdeel van een in historisch opzicht belangrijke marinehaven.

STORAGE SHED for the storage of wet gunpowder cotton, belonging to a complex of shed and fence, built in 1865-1870 within the fortress and naval harbour of Hellevoetsluis.
Description
The freestanding one-storey shed is built on a rectangular ground plan and has buttresses at the corners and in the middle of the long facades. The gabled roof, supported by principal rafter trusses, is covered with valley pantiles and provided with simply moulded wooden roof verges and gutters.
The red brick facades, laid in English bond, are articulated only by the use of sandstone setting and coping stones. Above double wooden moulded doors and double shutters with iron fittings are segmental arches. The shutters are provided with sandstone sills. Behind the shutters are opening cross windows. In the gable facades are herringbone arch-shaped spandrels.
Within the herringbone arch-shaped spandrel of the symmetrical front facade (north side) are, one above the other, a double wooden door and a shutter.
The symmetrical rear facade is provided with two small openings placed one above the other with windows and shutters.
The asymmetrical left side facade is provided with two openings containing windows and shutters.
The symmetrical right side facade has four bays, each provided with openings containing windows and shutters.
The shed has internally a simple layout consisting of a rectangular space with an intermediate floor.
