Inleiding
TUINSIERADEN, als onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode.
De buitenplaats heeft zijn oorsprong in een 13de eeuws kasteel. Belangrijke uitbreidingen en restauraties hebben zich onder meer in de 17de eeuw voorgedaan onder Johan I Ortt, die ook de opdracht gaf voor de aanleg van een formele tuin. Vanaf 1907 was de buitenplaats in het bezit van de Amsterdamse koffiehandelaar Michiel Onnes. Hij liet het kasteel onder leiding van architect E.G. Wentinck herstellen naar een 17de eeuwse situatie en voegde enkele bijgebouwen toe. De tuinarchitecten L.A. Springer en H. Copijn waren verantwoordelijk voor de tussen 1912-1915 tot Landschappelijke tuin omgevormde aanleg met een gemengd karakter. Thans zetelt Nijenrode Universiteit voor Bedrijfskunde in het kasteel en is met de aankoop van grond in de richting van het Amsterdam Rijnkanaal het grondgebied van de buitenplaats opnieuw vergroot.
N.B. De betonnen vazen en replica's van bustes en sokkels zijn niet bij de bescherming betrokken.
Omschrijving
De tuinsieraden in de rozentuin bestaan uit een aantal natuurstenen vazen op sokkels en bustes met bijbehorende sokkels. Aan de west- en noordzijde is de tuin omzoomd door hoge taxushagen met koepelnissen waarin zes vermoedelijk achttiende-eeuwse marmeren bustes op marmeren sokkels geplaatst zijn. Aan de noordzijde bevinden zich twee bustes, de zogenaamde 'Jantje lacht' en 'Jantje huilt', waarvan de kop 'Jantje huilt' een recente kopie betreft. Van de vier bustes aan de westzijde staat slechts één exemplaar op de originele sokkel, de overige zijn naar oorspronkelijk ontwerp vernieuwd.
Op de zuidelijke gazons staan twee zandstenen sokkels met in beton uitgevoerde vazen in de stijl van het Maniërisme. In het midden, rond het prieel, bevinden zich twee vermoedelijk zeventiende-eeuwse zandstenen vazen met bijbehorende sokkel. Op de noordelijke gazons bevinden zich negentiende-eeuwse vazen waarin het wapen van Nijenrode gehakt is met bijbehorende hardstenen sokkels. In het begin van de twintigste eeuw zijn de vazen voorzien van het wapen van Onnes.
Waardering
De tuinsieraden zijn van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur-, tuin- en kunsthistorische waarde als voorbeeld van tuinvazen, en tuinbeelden met bijbehorende sokkels uit verschillende perioden, vanwege de detaillering, het materiaalgebruik en de ouderdom alsmede als onderdeel van de rozentuin van de buitenplaats Nijenrode. The country estate has its origins in a 13th century castle. Important extensions and restorations took place in particular in the 17th century under Johan I Ortt, who also commissioned the laying out of a formal garden. Description
The garden ornaments in the rose garden consist of a number of natural stone vases on plinths and busts with corresponding plinths. On the west and north sides the garden is bordered by high yew hedges with dome-shaped niches in which six presumed eighteenth-century marble busts on marble plinths are placed. On the north side there are two busts, the so-called 'Jantje lacht' and 'Jantje huilt', of which the head 'Jantje huilt' is a recent copy. Of the four busts on the west side only one example stands on the original plinth, the others have been renewed according to the original design.
On the southern lawns stand two sandstone plinths with vases executed in concrete in the style of Mannerism. In the middle, around the pavilion, are two presumed seventeenth-century sandstone vases with corresponding plinth. On the northern lawns are nineteenth-century vases in which the coat of arms of Nijenrode is carved with corresponding hardstone plinths. At the beginning of the twentieth century the vases were provided with the coat of arms of Onnes.

The garden ornaments are of general importance because of their cultural, garden and art-historical value as an example of garden vases and garden statuary with corresponding plinths from various periods, because of the detailing, the use of materials and the age as well as as part of the rose garden of the country estate Nijenrode.
