Inleiding
ZOMERHUIS, bij boerderij, als onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode.
De buitenplaats heeft zijn oorsprong in een 13de eeuws kasteel. Belangrijke uitbreidingen en restauraties hebben zich onder meer in de 17de eeuw voorgedaan onder Johann I Ortt, die ook de opdracht gaf voor de aanleg van een formele tuin. Vanaf 1907 was de buitenplaats in het bezit van de Amsterdamse koffiehandelaar Michiel Onnes. Hij liet het kasteel onder leiding van architect E.G. Wentinck herstellen naar een 17de eeuwse situatie en voegde enkele bijgebouwen toe. De tuinarchitecten L.A. Springer en H. Copijn waren verantwoordelijk voor de tussen 1912-1915 tot Landschappelijke tuin omgevormde aanleg met een gemengd karakter. Thans zetelt Nijenrode Universiteit voor Bedrijfskunde in het kasteel en is met de aankoop van grond in de richting van het Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal het grondgebied van de buitenplaats opnieuw vergroot.
Omschrijving
De ver van de Straatweg af, aan een licht gekromde eigen weg gelegen zomerhuis naast de boerderij stamt uit de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw. Het zomerhuis wordt aan de zuidzijde omsloten door het parkbos van Nijenrode. Links naast het zomerhuis bevindt zich een open weide met hoogstamboomgaard. Het vrijstaande zomerhuis staat met de nokrichting haaks op de Straatweg. Het pand is vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond in baksteen opgetrokken. De twee assen tellende symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel heeft in de eerste bouwlaag twee keperboogvormige vensters met meervoudige kozijnen. In de top bevindt zich een tweelichtsvenster, eveneens met keperboogmotief. De gevelindeling en de vorm van de vensters is identiek met de voorgevel van de naastgelegen boerderij.
Waardering
Het zomerhuis is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een zomerhuis uit de tweede helft van de negentiende eeuw, vanwege de hoofdvorm en de voorgevel alsmede als functioneel onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode. Het zomerhuis heeft situationele waarde vanwege de ruimtelijk-functionele relatie met de andere onderdelen van het complex en de beeldbepalende ligging aan de Straatweg.

The country estate has its origin in a 13th century castle. Important extensions and restorations took place notably in the 17th century under Johann I Ortt, who also commissioned the layout of a formal garden. Description
The summer house, situated far from the Straatweg, on a slightly curved private road next to the farmhouse, dates from the second half of the nineteenth century.
