Inleiding
In de nutstuin voorkomende KAS met TUINMUUR uit de jaren tien van de 20ste eeuw, als onderdeel van de buitenplaats Nijenrode.
De buitenplaats heeft zijn oorsprong in een 13de eeuws kasteel. Belangrijke uitbreidingen en restauraties hebben zich onder meer in de 17de eeuw voorgedaan onder Johan I Ortt, die ook de opdracht gaf voor de aanleg van een formele tuin. Vanaf 1907 was de buitenplaats in het bezit van de Amsterdamse koffiehandelaar Michiel Onnes. Hij liet het kasteel onder leiding van architect E.G. Wentinck herstellen naar een 17de eeuwse situatie en voegde enkele bijgebouwen toe. De tuinarchitecten L.A. Springer en H. Copijn waren verantwoordelijk voor de tussen 1912-1915 tot Landschappelijke tuin omgevormde aanleg met een gemengd karakter. Thans zetelt Nijenrode Universiteit voor Bedrijfskunde in het kasteel en is met de aankoop van grond in de richting van het Amsterdam Rijnkanaal het grondgebied van de buitenplaats opnieuw vergroot.
Omschrijving
De kas van het type kopse kas met tuinmuur bevindt zich in de noordwestelijke hoek van de noordoostelijk in het park gelegen nutstuin. De noordelijke buitenmuur van de kas wordt gevormd door de west-oost georiënteerde tuinmuur, die de nutstuin omsluit. Aan de oostelijke zijde sluit de tuinmuur aan op de noordelijke gevel van de orangerie. De tuinmuur is in halfsteens verband opgetrokken en wordt afgesloten met een ezelsrug. In verband met de technische staat van de muur zijn recentelijk steunberen tegen de muur geplaatst. De kas bestaat uit een ijzeren constructie, die vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond opgetrokken is op een gemetselde plint. Het zadeldak is aan de zuidzijde gebroken en sluit aan de noordzijde aan op de bovenzijde van de ezelsrug van de tuinmuur. De gebogen staalconstructie vormt één constructief geheel met de verticale ijzeren geleiders voor de planten. Aan de west- en oostzijde bevinden zich entree's. Aan de muurzijde is een gangpad. Haaks daarop bevinden zich de rekken voor de planten, waarvan de staanders gefundeerd zijn op aangesmeerde, gemetselde poeren.
Waardering
Het object is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuur- en architectuurhistorische waarde als gaaf bewaard voorbeeld van een kopse kas met tuinmuur uit de jaren tien van de twintigste eeuw in het bijzonder vanwege de functie, detaillering en materiaalgebruik alsmede als functioneel onderdeel van de historische buitenplaats Nijenrode en in het bijzonder van de nutstuin. GREENHOUSE with GARDEN WALL located in the utility garden, dating from the nineteen-tens of the 20th century, as part of the country estate Nijenrode.
The country estate has its origins in a 13th century castle. Important extensions and restorations took place in particular in the 17th century under Johan I Ortt, who also commissioned the laying out of a formal garden. From 1907 the country estate was in the possession of Amsterdam coffee merchant Michiel Onnes. He had the castle restored under the direction of architect E.G. Wentinck to a 17th century state and added some outbuildings. Garden architects L.A. Springer and H. Copijn were responsible for the layout transformed between 1912-1915 into a landscape garden with a mixed character. At present Nijenrode University for Business Studies is housed in the castle and through the purchase of land in the direction of the Amsterdam Rhine Canal the territory of the country estate has been enlarged again.
Description
The greenhouse of the type lean-to greenhouse with garden wall is located in the northwest corner of the utility garden situated in the northeast of the park. The northern outer wall of the greenhouse is formed by the west-east oriented garden wall, which encloses the utility garden. On the eastern side the garden wall adjoins the northern facade of the orangery. The garden wall is constructed in half-brick bond and is finished with a saddle ridge. In view of the technical condition of the wall, buttresses have recently been placed against the wall. The gabled roof is broken on the south side and adjoins on the north side to the top of the saddle ridge of the garden wall. The curved steel construction forms one structural whole with the vertical iron guides for the plants. On the west and east sides are entrances. On the wall side is a gangway. Perpendicular to this are the racks for the plants, the uprights of which are founded on mortared, masonry piers.

The object is of general importance because of its cultural and architectural-historical value as a well-preserved example of a lean-to greenhouse with garden wall from the nineteen-tens of the twentieth century in particular because of the function, detailing and use of materials as well as as a functional component of the historic country estate Nijenrode and in particular of the utility garden. The greenhouse with garden wall has ensemble value because of the visual and spatial-functional relationship with the other components of the complex and in particular the utility garden.
