Inleiding
Ten westen van de stuw in de Roermondse Weerd gelegen sluis ten behoeve van het schudden van schepen op de Maas. De sluis werd omstreeks 1926 gebouwd in het kader van de Maaskanalisatie-werken. De sluis werd aangelegd naar een ontwerp van Rijkswaterstaat.
Omschrijving
Sluislichaam uitgevoerd in gewapend beton.
De vier stalen sluisdeuren zijn voorzien van een loopbrug.
Aan beide zijden van de sluis bevinden zich drie bedieningsgebouwtjes. Een gebouwtje is uitgevoerd in twee bouwlagen, dit betreft het bedieningsgebouw voor de sluiswachter.
Waardering
De sluis is van historisch waterstaatkundig belang vanwege zijn rol in de kanalisatie van de Maas waarmee in het begin van de 20ste eeuw op grootscheepse schaal een begin werd gemaakt. Eveneens is de stuw van belang vanwege de vroege, kale toepassing van beton in een waterbouwkundig kunstwerk.
