Inleiding
Grafmonument voor de Roermondse musicus Louis Guillaume en zijn echtgenote Melanie Lardinois. Dirigent Louis Guillaume was van betekenis voor het Limburgse muziekleven in de tweede helft van de 19de eeuw. Hij werd geboren te Brugge (B.) in 1851 en stierf te Roermond in 1904. Het grafmonument is gesitueerd vak 2B in het noordwesten van de begraafplaats.
Omschrijving
Grafmonument bestaande uit een brede hardstenen sokkel met hierop een grafsteen met inscriptie. Op deze steen een smal hoog hardstenen grafteken met hierop afbeeldingen van muziekinstrumenten o.a. harp, luit, triangel, fluit en klarinet. Het grafteken wordt bekroond met een stenen kruis. Tegen de sokkel is een hardstenen gedenkplaat geschroefd met o.a. de naam van de echtgenote van Guillaume, mevrouw Melanie Lardinois, overleden in 1936 te Roermond.
Waardering
Het grafmonument bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke ontwikkeling in de grafcultuur voor voorname katholieke families. Het grafmonument is tevens van belang als typologische ontwikkeling van grafmonumenten voor de sociale bovenklasse. Het grafmonument bezit architectuurhistorische waarde wegens esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde ontleent het object aan de situering op het Oude kerkhof van Roermond en daarmee van belang voor het aanzien van de stad. Description
Grave monument consisting of a broad hardstone base with upon it a gravestone with inscription. On this stone a narrow tall hardstone grave marker with thereon depictions of musical instruments including harp, lute, triangle, flute and clarinet. The grave marker is crowned with a stone cross. Against the base a hardstone commemorative plaque is screwed with among other things the name of the wife of Guillaume, Mrs Melanie Lardinois, deceased in 1936 at Roermond.
