Inleiding
Zeshoekige grafkapel uit het laatste kwart van de 19de- eeuw, genaamd Kapel Stolzenberg.
Omschrijving
Grafkapel, centraalbouw op zeshoekige grondslag, voorzien van een met leien gedekt tentdak. Dak bekroond met zinken pion. In kruisverband gemetselde gevels met natuurstenen plint, waterlijsten, hoekblokken en vensteromlijstingen. De voorzijde aan het hoofdpad bezit een monumentale ingangspartij. Rechthoekige houten deur met smeedijzer beslag. Drie hardstenen toegangstreden. Deur in een hard stenen omlijsting met aan bovenzijde van de deur een spitsboogvormige hardstenen nis met hierin een beeldje van de Herrijzende Christus met staf en vaandel in een vuurgloed. Geveldeel met deur iets vooruitspringend en uitlopend in een topgevel met hardstenen afdekking. Topgevel bekroond met hardstenen kruis. In vier zijden bevinden zich smalle stalen spitsboogvensters met glas-in-lood. Bloktanddecoratie onder de kroonlijst. Aan de achterzijde eveneens een licht risalerend geveldeel uitlopend in een topgevel met hardstenen afdekking en bekroond met een hardstenen kruis. De hoekstukken boven de waterlijst zijn voorzien van een letteropschrift: deze letters betreffen waarschijnlijk initialen van leden van de familie Stolzenberg.
Waardering
De grafkapel bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een geestelijke en typologische ontwikkeling als grafmonument op een Rooms-Katholieke begraafplaats. De grafkapel bezit architectuurhistorische waarde wegens esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de ornamentiek. Ensemblewaarde ontleent de kapel aan de situering op het Oude Kerkhof van Roermond en is daarmee van belang voor het aanzien van de stad. Burial chapel, central structure on hexagonal ground plan, provided with a tent roof covered with slates. Roof crowned with zinc finial. Facades mortised in cross bond with natural stone plint, drip mouldings, corner blocks and window surrounds. The front on the main path possesses a monumental entrance section. Rectangular wooden door with wrought-iron fittings. Three hardstone entrance steps. Door in a hardstone surround with on the top side of the door a pointed-arch-shaped hardstone niche with therein a sculpture of the Risen Christ with staff and banner in a fire glow. Facade section with door slightly projecting and terminating in a spire gable with hardstone capping. Spire gable crowned with hardstone cross. In four sides narrow steel pointed-arch windows with leaded glass are located. Dentil decoration under the cornice. On the back side likewise a slightly projecting facade section terminating in a spire gable with hardstone capping and crowned with a hardstone cross. The corner stones above the drip moulding are provided with a letter inscription: these letters probably concern initials of members of the Stolzenberg family.
