Inleiding
Gaaf bewaarde JOODSE BEGRAAFPLAATS, markant gelegen op een verhoging in een uit 1968 daterende nieuwbouwwijk ten zuidoosten van de oude kern van Werkendam en in 1852 op particulier initiatief aangelegd. Sinds 1942 wordt de begraafplaats niet meer gebruikt. Op de begraafplaats bevinden zich circa twintig graven met opschrift.
Omschrijving
De begraafplaats vormt een markant, geïsoleerd geheel op een kleine, kunstmatige heuvel. Het terrein is omgeven door een modern ijzeren hekwerk met prikkeldraad. De circa twintig, veelal hardstenen, staande zerken zijn dicht op elkaar geplaatst en hebben bijna allemaal in bas-reliëf aangebrachte grafschriften in zowel Hebreeuws als Nederlands. De ornamentiek is spaarzaam. Één van de graven is voorzien van een smeedijzeren hekwerk en een ander heeft zes hardstenen paaltjes.
Op de begraafplaats is nog veel oude beplanting bewaard zoals: treurwilgen, taxus en knotwilgen.

De Joodse begraafplaats is van algemeen belang wegens de cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociale en geestelijke ontwikkeling waarbij Joodse begraafplaatsen buiten bestaande woonplaatsen aangelegd dienden te worden. De Joodse begraafplaats heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met de aanwezige beplanting en vanwege de markante ligging. De Joodse begraafplaats is van algemeen belang wegens de structurele en visuele gaafheid van zowel de kavel als de zich daarop bevindende artefacten.

Well-preserved JEWISH CEMETERY, markedly situated on an elevation in a new-build district dating from 1968 to the southeast of the old centre of Werkendam and established in 1852 on private initiative. Since 1942 the cemetery has not been used. The cemetery contains approximately twenty graves with inscriptions.
Description
The cemetery forms a marked, isolated whole on a small, artificial mound. The site is surrounded by modern iron fencing with barbed wire. The approximately twenty, mostly sandstone, standing gravestones are placed close together and almost all have epitaphs in bas-relief in both Hebrew and Dutch. The ornament is sparse. One of the graves is fitted with a wrought-iron grille and another has six sandstone bollards.
Much old planting is still preserved at the cemetery such as: weeping willows, yew and pollard willows.
