GRAVE MONUMENT of the Sigmond family, erected circa 1872 in eclectic style. In particular the railings possess very fine detailing. The maker of the grave is not known. Originally the grave was erected as a child's grave; later the parents and several other family members were buried there. The grave is located centrally on the north side of the cemetery.

Description

Grave monument on square ground plan (approximately 3 by 3 metres). The grave is enclosed by an ornate wrought and cast iron railings with slender bars and a meander motif on the upper and lower sides. The fence (approximately 1.50 metres high) with ornamental spikes topped by arrow points rests on a low sandstone basement (approximately 20 cm high) and has cast iron pilasters at regular intervals on octagonal ground plan and with a fluted square superstructure. The pilasters are each crowned by a finial. The railings have two bays on all sides, can be opened at the front and is there crowned with wrought scrollwork. The rectangular location of the grave vault is strewn with gravel. On the rear side are three upright gravestones placed side by side, topped with palmettes. The middle stone is slightly higher than the flanking ones. The epitaphs are executed in bas-relief.

The grave inscriptions read: Middle gravestone, "resting place of A.G. Sigmond 16-3-1873 - 27-9-1872, M.S. Sigmond 8-12-1870 - 3-10-1872, M. Buitendijk 12-6-1793 - 6-5-1873, H.W.S. Sigmond 9-8-1876 - 16-8-1876".
