Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
BRIDGE with ENTRANCE GATE, as part of the historical country estate 'Het Plantagehuis'. The country estate has its origins as the lordship 'Vreeland', which dates back to the 18th century. In 1908, the Amsterdam merchant G.H. Hooft van Vreeland commissioned the construction of the main house in Moorish style in the middle of a landscaped park.
Description
The bridge with entrance gate from 1863 (as well as the opposite bridge) over the ditch on the north side of the Kleizuwe provides access to a triangular plot with an orchard, known by the name 'De driehoek'. The bridge consists of two mortared flared abutments with mortared semi-circular piers, provided on the top with corbelled brickwork. Abutments and piers are provided with natural stone coping plates. In the north-west pier is inlaid in ashlar 'WATERLOO' and in the south-west pier '18 June 1815'.
Between the mortared abutments lies a fixed non-original wooden bridge, consisting of wooden beams with a wooden plank deck, provided on both sides with a wooden balustrade.
The wrought-iron entrance gate is anchored in the southern piers. The gate consists of two openwork gate posts filled with leaf ornaments, between which a two-winged spindled swing gate is placed. In the central spindel a lock case and locking pin are mounted. The gate is arched on top. The gate posts and the spindels are crowned by a gilded ornament.
Against the northern piers of the bridge, on both sides, a wrought-iron brace with volute-shaped ornament is placed.
Valuation
The bridge is of general interest because of its cultural and architectural historical value as an intact example of a fixed bridge on mortared piers, provided with a wrought-iron entrance gate from 1863. Furthermore, as a memorial to the 50th anniversary of the founding, under King William I, of the Kingdom of the Netherlands after the Battle of Waterloo. Finally, the bridge is of ensemble value in coherence with the other complex components, the opposite memorial bridge and other memorial monuments in particular.
