Omschrijving
Omschrijving complexonderdeel 2

Description
Description complex component 2
The BRIDGE-KEEPER'S COTTAGE built in 1940 in Functionalist style is situated on the east bank of the Vecht on the south side of the bridge on the Provincialeweg Haarlem-Hilversum. The bridge-keeper's cottage forms stylistically and structurally a unified whole with the bridge. It is a largely white-painted brick building consisting of two storeys on an almost rectangular floor plan under a gabled roof with overhang, the ridge of which is perpendicular to the Vecht. The left roof pitch extends partially further. The roof is covered with suppressed improved Dutch tiles. The windows, originally provided with steel frames, have, with the exception of the round windows, modern aluminium frames. The upper storey projects forward and is supported by two concrete pillars above the water. Here was the service room of the bridge-keeper. In the front facade (west facade) a wide six-part window is placed, which adjoins the window in the side facade on the left. On the ground floor the front facade transitions into clean brickwork in the brickwork of the bridge abutment.
The left side facade (north facade) contains at street level a door with to the left a double side light under a concrete canopy (access to the dwelling). A staircase leads via the masoned bridge abutment to a door with fanlight and side lights in the overhanging upper storey (access to the former service room). In the recessed left side facade of the non-overhanging part of the upper storey there are furthermore two small rectangular windows and a round window.
The right side facade (south facade) forms the rounded corner of the abutment on the ground floor. Here, under a canopy, an oriel with portico is placed with to the left a round window (behind a shutter) and to the right a composite window. On the upper storey in the side facade of the overhanging part there is a round window and continuing along the facade under the eaves a running three-part window series separated by narrow wall dams. The back facade contains a door to the garden and a window.
Valuation complex component 2
The building is of general interest due to its cultural and architectural historical value as an intact example of a bridge-keeper's cottage, built in 1940 in Functionalist style to the design of architect W.M. Dudok, which forms a structural and stylistic unity with the bridge. Also due to its place within the oeuvre of W.M. Dudok. Furthermore due to its urban design value in conjunction with the bridge over the river Vecht.
