Inleiding

Introduction

RESIDENTIAL BLOCK, consisting of four dwellings, as part of the former glass factory complex 'De Glashut', originally consisting of 18 workers' dwellings, divided over three residential blocks. Currently renovated and containing nine dwellings through amalgamation.

Description

The most northerly situated RESIDENTIAL BLOCK of the three residential blocks consists of one storey on a rectangular ground plan under a gabled roof between spout gables with the ridge parallel to the road and covered with red or damped Oudhollandse tiles. The facades are constructed in red brick in stretcher bond. Courses are applied above the window and door openings. Originally the residential block contained nine dwellings with the corner dwellings (numbers 134 and 148).

In the front facade (south side) a door with a shared fanlight and a nine-pane sash window with shutters is placed per original dwelling. With the exception of dwelling no. 144, a wooden clog house under a lean-to roof is placed in front of the door. The arrangement of the front facade is always mirrored per two dwellings. The corner dwellings have the entrance in the side facade, by which the arrangement of the front facade begins and ends with two windows.

The right side facade contains a sash window with shutters and a door with a shared fanlight and on the far right a fanlight of a blocked door (entrance former rear dwelling). On the upper storey a window is placed with an angled corner on the left and on the right a header-arch-shaped window.

Against the left side facade a modern wooden extension is placed under a lean-to roof. On the upper storey two mullioned windows with casements are applied.

The rear facade contains a nine-pane sash window or a door with a fanlight and a nine-pane window per original dwelling.

Valuation

The property is of general importance on account of its cultural and architectural-historical value as an example of a nineteenth-century residential block with originally nine workers' dwellings, which have been well preserved as to exterior. And also as a remnant of the former glass factory complex. Furthermore on account of its ensemble value through the spatial, functional and stylistic coherence with the other complex components.
