NIEUWE HOLLANDSE WATERLINIE
Inleiding

Description
NEW HOLLAND WATER LINE
Introduction
BRIDGE AND INUNDATION AND WEIR SLUICE WITH INUNDATION CANAL at the Loenderveense Molen as functional components of the inundation system of the New Holland Water Line. The defence system of the New Holland Water Line was primarily based on the controlled flooding of (large) land areas. Controlled inundation required an ingenious system of water works, such as sluices, weirs and canals, with which the necessary level could be set and maintained quickly and within narrow limits. Many different types of sluices were applied, depending on the location where they functioned in the system. Sometimes existing navigation, drainage or weir sluices were used, but many new ones were also built or existing ones were (significantly) adapted. The bridge in the eastern Vechtdijk (here called Oud Over) with sluice at the Loenderveense Molen, and the watercourse, which originally served as a boezem canal of the polder, were in the 19th century also intended and equipped for functions within the New Holland Water Line. Bridge and sluice have been restored and reinforced with concrete and steel; according to an inscription the pointed gates date from 1963.
Description
The BRIDGE AND INUNDATION AND WEIR SLUICE on the eastern bank of the Vecht at the level of the Loenderveense Molen consists of a straight span across the drainage outlet at the mouth of the boezem canal / the inundation canal of the polder of the same name. On either side of the road low brick roll courses with natural stone blocks, on which wooden railings. The span measures approximately 2.50 m; the traffic bridge approximately 5 m wide, of which 2 x 50 cm for the roll courses. On this, on the polder side iron pins for placement of davits to place board beams in the lock walls; on the Vecht side there are wooden, opening towards the river side pointed gates. The INUNDATION CANAL runs eastwards from the bridge with sluice to the Loenderveense Molen. The canal is over 300 m long and approximately 8 m wide.
Valuation
BRIDGE AND INUNDATION AND WEIR SLUICE WITH INUNDATION CANAL along the Vecht at the level of the Loenderveense Molen are of general interest because of:
* Cultural-historical values as part of the New Holland Water Line as designed by C.R.T. Kraijenhoff and initially realised from 1815 by him, Jan Blanken and major-engineer Willem Offerhaus, and subsequently strengthened and improved by others over approximately 125 years.
* Architectural-historical values, in particular as an expression of construction and water works related to military-strategic building, which are based on the system of inundation and access defence (19th and 20th centuries),
This concerns an expression of historical water engineering related to military-strategic building, namely a bridge with sluice and inundation canal.
* Ensemble values as part of the New Holland Water Line. Also because of the functional and physical coherence with the other components of the complex.
* The components are representative (characteristic) because they can demonstrate application of the principle of the functioning of the inundation system.
* The components are reasonably well preserved because the main form, architectural detailing and various components, also thanks to restoration, are recognisable and functionally present.
