Inleiding.
CAFE 'De Witte' is gelegen naast het voormalige gemeentehuis aan het Heuvelplein te Beek. Het café dateert uit omstreeks 1890 en is opgetrokken in ambachtelijk-traditionele stijl. De luifel tegen de voorgevel zal omstreeks 1925 aan het pand zijn toegevoegd.
Beschrijving.
Het eenlaags pand heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en wordt gedekt door een zadeldak met verbeterde Hollandse pannen. De eindgevels zijn voorzien van hardstenen lijsten met nokruiters. De aan de zuidelijke zijde gelegen, symmetrisch opgezette straatgevel is gemetseld in baksteen, heeft een gepleisterde plint en wordt afgesloten door een gestuct fries met een goot. De gevel telt vijf vensterassen. Centraal in de gevel zijn in een gestucte, geprofileerde en geschilderde omlijsting een paneeldeur met smeedijzeren roosters en een getoogd, gedeeld bovenlicht geplaatst. Ook de flankerende zesruits schuifvensters zijn voorzien van hardstenen dorpels en een degelijke geprofileerde omlijsting. De houten luifel tegen de gevel heeft houten dubbele stijlen die gesteld zijn op een bakstenen muurtje. Aan de bovenzijde is de luifel versierd met een doorlopend ajour uitgevoerd houten keperboogfries. Verschillende onderdelen van de luifel zijn later vervangen.
Waardering.
Het café is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, namelijk de groei van de horeca in het zuiden als gevolg van de industrialisatie rond 1900.
