MAIN BUILDING (De Nederhorst). Castle-like house from the first half of the seventeenth century, of which a part of the masonry on the west side recalls the sixteenth-century residential tower (different stone format) and a classicistic entrance section from the eighteenth century. The house, erected on a square ground plan, consists of a basement storey, situated above water level, and two storeys under a hipped roof covered with slate on the front side only and tiles, with small roof lanterns; on the corners stand hexagonal towers crowned by slate-covered spires with weathervanes. The facades feature a regular articulation of cross windows of varying sizes with half shutters; partly under relieving arches with voussoir stones. Centrally in the regularly divided front facade of five window bays is the entrance section in an eighteenth-century surround with balcony and roof dormer. The double entrance door with round-arched fanlight furnished with ornamental ironwork is flanked by moulded pilasters carrying a balcony; above the framed first-storey window is a roof dormer with round-arched pediment and cheeks. The door is reached via a broad flight of steps with sandstone treads and an elegant wrought-iron railing; small gates on either side give access to the basement storey. The rear facade likewise has five window bays with centrally a basement door leading to a flight of steps, which is now built out and upon which the landing stage is placed (see component no. 9), above it a french door with wrought-iron grille. In the INTERIOR, the ground plan and spatial arrangement are notably important, featuring a straight corridor on the axis of the house; beam ceilings, in the tower rooms partly with keystone features; the right front room with beam ceiling and large seventeenth-century hearth; the adjacent tower room with hearth and overmantel furnished with woodcarving around a mirror in Louis XIV or XVI style; stuccoed ceiling with rosette (wood); on the first storey an eighteenth-century painted ceiling with a mythological representation and four 'white fields' (from elsewhere and placed here in 1973); in the basement storey the kitchen with marble floor, water pump and stone water tank.
