Inleiding
Het FILTERGEBOUW, behorend bij het complex van de Dongecentrale, is gelegen op de noordoever van de Donge, ten zuidwesten van het centralegebouw. In het gebouw is de mechanische filteraanleg van de electriciteitcentrale ondergebracht, noodzakelijk voor de filtering van de grote hoeveelheden koelwater -onttrokken aan de rivier- die in de Dongecentrale werden gebruikt. Het gebouw, dat stijlelementen van het functionalisme vertoont, werd opgetrokken in 1929, naar ontwerp van prof.ir. G.J. van Swaaij.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw heeft een globaal rechthoekige plattegrond en telt één bouwlaag onder een flauw hellend, overstekend zadeldak. Het filtergebouw is gebouwd op een gewapend betonnen onderbouw, rustend op een houten paalfundering. Hierin bevinden zich de inlaatkelders, de filterkelders, een reinwaterkelder en buizenkelders.
Tegen de oostgevel een kleine uitbouw onder plat, waarin de ingang van het filtergebouw. De gevels zijn opgetrokken in baksteen, met een rollaag boven de plint en de vensters. In de lange (noordelijke en zuidelijke) zijgevels hoge, per twee gekoppelde vensters, waarin een kleine stalen roedenverdeling. In de oostelijke kopgevel, boven de uitbouw een zestal rechtgesloten vensters met kleine roedenverdeling. De westelijke kopgevel heeft een zestal rechtgesloten vensters met kleine roedenverdeling. In het midden een achteringang. Inwendig heeft het filtergebouw een staalskelet met vuurwerende omkleding. Het dak rust op vakwerkspanten. In het filtergebouw is nog een vijftal oorspronkelijke pompen aanwezig.
Waardering
Het filtergebouw, behorend bij het complex van de Dongecentrale, is van algemeen belang. Het object bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling: het vormt een goede illustratie van de geschiedenis van de electriciteitsvoorziening in Noord-Brabant. Het complex is voorts van belang als voorbeeld van een typologische ontwikkeling: het filtergebouw is illustratief voor het produktieproces binnen een electriciteitscentrale. Het object bezit architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de functionalistische stijl. Het object bezit ensemblewaarde als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van nationaal belang is. Het filtergebouw, met daarin een vijftal originele pompen, is van belang vanwege de gaafheid. Het object is tot slot van belang vanwege typologische en functionele zeldzaamheid.

Introduction
The FILTER BUILDING, belonging to the complex of the Donge power station, is situated on the northern bank of the Donge, to the southwest of the central building. In the building the mechanical filter installation of the electricity power station is housed, necessary for the filtering of the large quantities of cooling water -extracted from the river- that were used in the Donge power station. The building, which exhibits stylistic elements of functionalism, was erected in 1929, to a design by prof.ir. G.J. van Swaaij.
Description
The building has a roughly rectangular floor plan and comprises one storey under a gently sloping, overhanging gabled roof. The filter building is built on a reinforced concrete substructure, resting on a timber pile foundation. In it are located the inlet cellars, the filter cellars, a clean water cellar and pipe cellars.
Against the east facade a small extension under a flat roof, containing the entrance to the filter building. The facades are constructed in brick, with a band course above the plinth and the windows. In the long (northern and southern) side facades tall, paired windows, containing a small steel glazing bar system. In the eastern end facade, above the extension six rectangular-headed windows with small glazing bars. The western end facade has six rectangular-headed windows with small glazing bars. In the centre a rear entrance. Internally the filter building has a steel frame with fire-resistant covering. The roof rests on truss members. In the filter building five original pumps are still present.
Valuation
The filter building, belonging to the complex of the Donge power station, is of general importance. The object possesses cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a socio-economic development: it forms a good illustration of the history of electricity supply in North Brabant. The complex is furthermore significant as an example of a typological development: the filter building is illustrative of the production process within an electricity power station. The object possesses architectural-historical value because of the functionalist style. The object possesses ensemble value as an essential component of a larger whole, which is of national cultural-historical importance.
