Introduction.

In 1889, the VILLA Hoogenhuizen was constructed in the forms of Eclecticism, with a monumental gate and coachhouse, situated in a landscaped and moated garden with old trees near the protected farmhouse no. 10. A copper crest on the roof edge disappeared after 1945.

Description.

Two-storey country house on a rectangular ground plan, constructed from reddish-brown, yellow, brown and smoked machine-made brick, covered with a flat roof with slate-covered hipped sections. The tall building has an asymmetrical front facade with on the left a slightly projecting risalit. Hardstone plinth, above which walls with lacing courses in yellow and red at the height of the undersills and the segmental arches of the windows and closed off by a frieze with ornamental brickwork and dentil course in yellow stone. The left bay has below and above two two-part sash windows coupled by the window sill with fanlight frames and segmental arches. The same sash windows appear on the storey of the slightly recessed right bay, which on the ground floor has a glazed loggia with moulded cornice, resting on a brick corner pilaster with list capital. The left and right side facades have two-part sash windows. In the rear facade a kitchen door, a tall staircase window and in the right risalit coupled windows as in the front facade. The sloping roof sections have slates in rens covering with decorated corner ridges and in the planes several zinc bull's-eye windows. One still has its original pivoting skylight. Inside the hall and part of the rooms have panelled doors and stucco ceilings with simple mouldings. Loggia with brick walls and first stone in marble with inscription: 'Marie and Alphonse Mommers/15 June 1889'. Double panelled doors with decorative grilles provide access to the hall with ornamental cement tile floor and staircase with turned balusters. On the left a large sitting room with French doors and a younger fireplace by architect Bedaux (c. 1950). On the right French doors to the kitchen with ornamental tile floor, chimney, storage cupboards with panelled doors and original copper pump with basin. Cellar with built-in storage compartments and whitewashed barrel vaults in brick on iron profiles.

On the storey a sitting room and bedroom. On the attic former servants' rooms.
