Omschrijving
Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Country house "Hemelrijk", built in the first half of the nineteenth century and modified in 1873. The country house with two striking corner towers is constructed in eclectic forms; the corner towers in Romanesque Revival forms. The entirely detached country house is situated on the old north-western main road towards 's-Hertogenbosch, just outside the built-up area. It is surrounded by a large garden enclosed by cast-iron fencing with various old trees. The country house is located on a site where a farmhouse already stood in 1614. The conservatory on the western side dates from 1968 and falls outside the protection afforded by the state.
Description
Country house on a rectangular ground plan of two storeys with rendered facades of two and three bays under a hipped roof with slate tiles. Centrally in the roof ridge is a square brick chimney with an iron cap. The side facade facing the street is flanked by two corner towers constructed in Romanesque Revival forms. The front facade facing south has three bays of which the central one is the entrance section with a wooden round-arched door and above it a balcony with ornamental iron fencing and a roof covering that pierces the gutter, covered with slates, with worked wind vanes on slender, twisted columns. The flanking windows are all straight-closing and have renewed frames that can be closed by means of venetian blinds.
On the west facade a conservatory of one storey has been constructed across the full width. On the upper floor there are two straight-closing double balcony doors with venetian blinds. In the roof section a roof dormer with a segmental arch is centrally placed.
The west facade is flanked by two remarkable but very striking corner towers constructed in fair-faced brickwork with pointed spires covered with slates. Both towers are identical in detailing and have narrow light openings for the spiral staircase, a round-arched frieze at the height of the gutter of the house and above two rows of framed pigeon holes. The height of the tower spires corresponds approximately with that of the roof ridge of the country house.
On the east side there is a single-storey extension from the building period. The windows and door of this have been renewed. On the upper floor there are two rectangular windows with four-pane frames and venetian blinds. In the roof section a roof dormer with a segmental arch is placed.
The north facade is actually a rectangular two-storey building mass under a flat roof. The detailing is austere with two windows placed one above the other, straight-closing. On the east side a tall, rectangular chimney is placed. Of the original interior and layout virtually nothing remains. During a renovation in 1968-1969 this was largely altered.
Valuation
The country house is of general importance. The country house has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of socio-economic development whereby the affluent bourgeoisie and the administrative elite established themselves in the direct vicinity of 's-Hertogenbosch on the main roads of the smaller, more rural, places around it and had a country house built there.
The country house is of architectural-historical importance because of the particular coherence between the constituent components, the typological and art-historical quality of the applied eclectic and Romanesque Revival style elements. The country house has ensemble value because of the high quality of the building and the historic-spatial relationship with the roads and green spaces. The country house is important because of the building-technical and typological rarity which it possesses as such.
