The PARK LAYOUT consists of:

a. homestead with moat;

b. central axis;

c. geometric park.

addendum a.: the homestead, essentially of medieval origin, is a rectangular island situated in a broad moat of the same shape; centrally on the western half of the island stood until 1913 the house De Gelder, which likewise had medieval origins; on the island now stand only the building house and the coach house (see below under 3); a bridge with gate (see below under 4 and 5) give access over the east arm of the moat to the homestead; this is simply laid out with lawns and some new hedges; the east-west running central axis runs across the middle of the island, through the gate and across the bridges. The south, west and north arms of the moat are considerably broader than the east arm; the west arm has an apsidal protrusion on the outer bank in the middle; the east arm has a brick retaining wall on the inside (see below under 5); the other banks consist of earthen slopes.
