Inleiding
Direct ten noorden van de houten landbouwbrug (7.1) tussen de Stichting en Boswachterij Sint Anthonis staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 428, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse aan de zijde van het kanaal afgegraven.
Omschrijving
De kazemat staat aan de noordelijke zijde van de thans gedeeltelijk verharde weg en kan door het middelste schietgat frontaal vuur op deze weg uitbrengen. Tevens kan flankerend vuur op het kanaal en het voorterrein worden afgegeven. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtsschade.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Directly north of the wooden agricultural bridge (7.1) between the Stichting and Boswachterij Sint Anthonis, on the western embankment of the Defensiekanaal stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 428, dating from 1939-1940. The earthwork has been excavated at this location on the canal side.
