Inleiding
Ten noorden van kazemat 420 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 421, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse nog geheel aanwezig en heeft nog grotendeels het oorspronkelijke profiel.
Omschrijving
De kazemat staat op de plaats waar een bospad van de Boswachterij Sint Anthonis op het kanaal dood loopt. De kazemat geeft frontaal vuur op dit pad en flankerend vuur op het voorterrein. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtssporen. Achter de kazemat zijn in de wal nog duidelijke grondsporen van de loopgraaf naar de toegang van de kazemat te herkennen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. North of casemate 420, on the western embankment of the Defensiekanaal stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 421, dating from 1939-1940. The earthwork is still fully present at this location and has largely retained its original profile.

The casemate stands at the location where a forest path from the Boswachterij Sint Anthonis meets the canal as a dead end. The casemate can deliver frontal fire on this path and flanking fire on the foreground. The casemate has been well preserved and shows no combat damage. Behind the casemate, clear ground traces of the trench leading to the casemate entrance can still be seen in the earthwork.

The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history.
