Inleiding

Schaap Hzn. in Traditionalistische vormen.

Introduction

The Christinehoeve, FARMHOUSE of the originally Frisian gabled-roof type, created in 1913 according to a design by S. Schaap Hzn. in Traditionalist forms. The farmhouse was part of the large-scale land reclamations by Adam Roelvink.

Description

Farmhouse, constructed from machine-made brick, under a gabled and hipped roof of curved and corrugated tiles. Beneath the corrugated tiles the original thatch.

The dwelling house has in the front facade a barrel-arch door with panel door accessible via a brick stoop and a round window with iron fittings and to the right two sash windows with six-pane fanlights. Between the windows a facade stone with the text: 'The first stone laid by/ Christine Margaretha Roelvink/ born Willink/ and by her granddaughter/ Christine Margaretha Telders/ on 9 July 1913'. On the upper storey a similar window with fixed calf. The left side facade has a pair of cloister windows with glazing bars and subsequently a three-part window with fanlights with four and six panes. The roof has an overhang on sloped brackets with wind braces at the gable. In the left roof plane a roof dormer with double sash window with glazing bars. In the right dwelling house facade a sash window as in the front facade and as a transition to the lower masonry of the business section a conservatory with glass panels and French doors on a brick base wall. The conservatory is connected to the dwelling house with a lean-to roof.

The rectangular business section has a single-storey front annex with identical and partly coupled sash windows as in the dwelling house. Below the roof edge a brick moulding. In the left side facade a small window for the large dairy cellar and an entrance with brick stoop. In the wall here the house name 'Christine Hoeve'. The stable and shed section projects slightly. On the long left side facade five coupled six-pane windows with tilting fanlight and a double cart-entry door with narrow fanlight with glazing bars. The wall anchors here reflect the division of the business section into five rafter bays. The right side facade has a pair of bolted doors with three-part fanlight and coupled six-pane windows. In the rear facade identical windows and doors and double cart-entry doors for stable and shed. The dwelling house retains the old layout with hallway, kitchen and rooms with panel doors. The business section is divided by a low longitudinal wall with coupled six-pane windows into a cattle stable and a bull stable and storage section.

The substantial roof truss structure, constructed largely from oak, five-aisle design consists of two high aisles on which a triangular roof truss composed of roundwood. The left aisle is separated by a roof plane composed of thatch and forms with a low side aisle part of the Dutch barn for cattle. The bull stable and storage section has in addition to the wide and high aisle a narrower side aisle and a narrow passage, whereby the posts of the timber frame do not stand directly against the outer wall. Against the dwelling house facade an early example of a concrete water pump from ca. 1911.

Valuation

The building is of general interest and has cultural-historical value as evidence of socio-economic and geographical development. It is furthermore of importance because of its pioneering character in relation to the reclamation of the Peel and as such in conjunction with the reclamations of the estates De Groote Slink and De Bunthorst has great value.

It is of importance for the typological development of reclamation farmhouses in this area. It has ensemble value because of its siting, connected with the development of the region. It has been well preserved and is a good example of the application of a type derived from Friesland as a reclamation farmhouse for a cattle-breeding enterprise in the Peel.
